Finish lots of stuff, even if if's not perfect. Shoot for six. They will get progressively better. Watch that Cap Lock key...people will think you are shouting or computer illiterate.

"Making it" in the alternative / indie scene requires strong convictions and original ideas more than anything. The indie crowd is certainly more open to a 40 year old bald dude dressed like Ronald McDonald wailing away on an oboe in front of a drum machine while shouting anti-corporate slogans. All of four or five people will lay down their hard earned bread to witness that. I think that most indie / alt people who have "made it" are the ones who worked hard at their craft, realized that everybody would rather listen to Matchbox 20 and watch re-runs of Eight is Enough, got smart and started working behind the scenes in positions that are guaranteed X number of dollars (soundboard, rigging, lighting, producing et al) and are now gainfully employed by Brooks and Dunn. There has never been a punk record that sold a million copies. Lump

| I'm that guy for sure. But if not for music, poetry I may never have had a chance or even seen reason to learn how to function on computer.

If you're too old to try, then you're too old. That is dictated by you and you alone. "Dookie" by Green Day is considered punk (not by most punk aficionados, true, but nevertheless...) and went Diamond. "Kerplunk" which was indie-produced has sold over 4 million worldwide. Insomniac and Nimrod both went double-platinum.

For example take 'Seasick steve'. He was what you might call 'discovered' and he's ancient. Not too old to do it tho'. Rock on, whatever age you are. |
