What the hell is so fucking special about YouTube????????? All these portable devices/TiVoS'/phones/etc all advertise that they're YouTube compatible or can download YouTube videos straight to your whatever. So what? Am I missing something? The video and audio on YouTube SUCKS and I've never seen anything worth watching. What am I going to miss? A 14-year-old falling off his skateboard? A dog making an audible fart?

I'm a trumpet player, so excuse the trumpet playing concentration here, but here's some things I'm thankful to youtube for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xyyJIFrr2w (okay that ones just cos I love it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEbpdTIfhZ4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDEI-M9Ljcw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHXZrtBP67k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDHiOuyHwbw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVl5Z3ud_Qs sometimes its about content more than quality. Watch and learn. Now, what about the Beattles? What the fuck is that all about? |

I don't use youtube much, but once in a while friend will send me a clip of some obscure musician just kicking ass and I'm glad I saw it. I'm sure a lot of people will abuse it posting copyrighted stuff and whatnot.

There are some videos on Youtube that I would have extraordinary difficulty finding otherwise. Here are a couple if you want... http://youtube.com/watch?v=zDuee6blvj8 http://youtube.com/watch?v=cTZ3308mTYg http://youtube.com/watch?v=z_XlCjzCwQg http://youtube.com/watch?v=Lj6-gohzsaE http://youtube.com/watch?v=Gc9Jk9Lqbwc (talking about The Beatles... )

While trying to get exposure for my band and music it was recommended to me that I should post videos of our performances on Youtube. I was highly skeptical of this at first but considered the advice and finally succumbed to the suggestion. Now, less than 2 months later, our music has been viewed over 1800 times. Lets say maybe half that number was myself, family, friends, and the band mates and significant others. This narrows the views down to 900 or so. Thats equivalent to 4 performances of over 200 people each! For what? a couple of hours of editing and posting while I sit on the computer anyway? Exposure is exposure! On the flip side, I agree that a lot of what is to view on Youtube is very cheesy, but then again so is the average network television show. At least with Youtube my choices are limited by my own creativity using the search feature! Can the site be improved? Absolutely! Does anybody reading this remember the first TRS-80 or Commodore 64? Just my opinion. In case anyone is interested in the search for our stuff explicitfaiththeband is the channel. Yeah, I know, the music sucks and videos do too, we have now been a "band" 5 months. See above computer analogy. |

Well, I use it to look at live performances, especially of people who are relatively obscure. They've got a lot of Pete Seeger's "Rainbow Quest" TV shows from the 60s up there, which are amazing (Pete talking and playing with old folkies, and some great performances). -Tyler

Me and buddy just uploaded our trailer for the big new site launch we are doing. Youtube completely took a shit on our video. The compression is terrible. Apparently, you can get away with blurring photorealistic video, but not so well with screenshots. Brandon |

YouTube is a cool site. It simply lets user share videos and make them more available than other wise possible (for free, BTW). For example, I have made some short films just for fun. Now, I could burn a DVD for each of my friends that wants to see it or have a screening party, but that just doesn't make too much sense (after all, its just a crappy movie). So I throw it up on youtube and the tell my friends about it. They view it on their own time and let me know what they though. Next example has to do with guitar hero (cuz I can't actually play a guitar). My super whammying action rendered my whammy bar limp. That and it broke. So when searching for the fix for the whammy bar, where did I turn first? YouTube. Search for "Fix broken Guitar Hero Whammy Bar" and in a second, I had dozens of different videos with solutions at my fingertips. But sure, the quality is less than desirable. I live with it (barely). But even with all of that, I don't see a need to watch YouTube Videos on my phone. |
