progenie, Funny that the first rifle I bought with some lawn mowing money back when I was a lad was a WWII era bolt action Italian Carcano 7.35 mm. Set me back about $40. This is also the same model that Oswald shot Kennedy with. The States are full of these old Italian surplus rifles. At my local hardware store the proprietor has a "Barrel 'o Guns" for $75 apiece. 95% of them are old Italian Carcano's. When I recieved my Carcano it was still packed in the original wood crate, straw, and covered with about 2 qts of gun oil. I rubbed that thing down for a week before I could shoot it without getting oil all over the place. Never could shoot it straight. I still can't see how Oswald hit JFK with one of these Carcano's. They are heavy, clumsy, and extremely innaccurate. Think he got 3 shots off in 5 seconds, all of which hit the target. Yeah, right. Lump

lumpy, in the past Italy was (and probably still is) the main mines producer (that kind of mines that could destroy a tank or mutilate a lot of children) all over the world. Also Beretta is an italian brand and I suppose many others I don't know. Weapons are really a business for many people and the business doesn't care ethics. We sold weapons to Iraq, Iran and all "enemies" when they was "friends". Now God only knows who is buying our rifles or super hi tech military helicopters. (...I hope all rifles are as bad as your first rifle... do you think Oswald was extremely lucky or only in the wrong place at the wrong time? ...).

progenie, Wasn't trying to get in on the moral implications of the argument, I just thought you may find it interesting that (correct me if I'm wrong) while there are laws in Italy prohibiting private citizens from owning guns in your home country, those same guns have made their way to private citizens' hands here in the States. Irony is so ironic. I don't think those Carcano's were ever meant to be finesse firearms. They were built to be tough and simple. They are also a great first gun for youngsters who want to get into the sport of hunting. As far as Oswald goes; I've never researched the JFK assasination due to all the kooks that always seem to hover around the subject. Since the subject isn't as popular now as it was 15 years ago, I am going to give it some serious time. One particular point of interest to me is the laughable "single magic bullet" theory. Lump
