Default Turbo Members and Marketing

Some of you have voiced complaints about the Turbo Member forum and my marketing strategy.

I've love to hear your views.

This site has been a huge help to noobs, hobby-ists, and semi-pros for the longest friggin time with moutains of free info, which is still free right now.

What's the big deal that a small, brand new section of more in depth info that you get free with the purchase of a home recording book?

If you are only looking for an answer to a specific question or just talk gear and theory, it's still open and free. If you want to really dive in and learn it all, or even take a refresher course, get the book. It's invaluable.

Yeah, I don't see what the problem is. But then, I'm one of the elite

Hi chaps.

Okay, my original argument was I disagreed with the 'Turbo member' thing.

Fair enough you have bought KHR, why should that entitle you to private threads, the rest of us can't access.?

If the threads were only of any use to KHR owners, why bother making them private?

We are all users on this bbs, no one should feel they are part of some elite group within this community.

The way Brandon has marketed KHR has caused this, not intentionally I believe , however it was a fairly aggressive marketing ploy, so you gotta take some of the heat on this one dude.

Some guys genuinely cant afford KHR, some missed it, others don't want or need it maybe, why should they be made to feel like lesser users?

OK, I was just joking about the "elite" thing, but there is actually a good reason that it was made private in the beginning (I'm not sure I should go into detail - I can't remember how much of the details I read are in there or in the other KHR forum), and I think for a brief period it should still be, but I think eventually when the only threads in there pertain to various sections of the book that no one else would want to read then it might become public... maybe

I honestly don't care one way or the other, but it's possible changing the name "Turbo Member" to something like "KHR Owner" might solve some of the issue, and it would pave the way for when you have other products with their own separate forums and "owner" buttons. The problem, I think, with "Turbo Member" is that it has little connection with why people have that label, and might be confusing to new members and those that have been away for awhile.

That's what my point explains.
The site has been 100% free for years.
Now, even after the Turbo Member portion, it's still 98.42% free. There's a good chance people will still find thier answers and learn a whole bunch even without that missing 2% of the forum.

The intention is not to make anyone feel like less. The point is to let people know there is more.

If we take that approach, we have to assume that every time a person sees something they can't afford, they are somehow "less". That doesn't make sense to me.

I hate the fact that some people have to do without, but I hate to break it to everyone, but I can't afford everything I want. This doesn't mean I think we should ban all mention of Ferraris, fighter jets, machine guns, and hot ass hookers (not the sleazy ones). Those are some of the best things in life!

So instead of looking at this Turbo Member as a snotty club, it seems more logical to ask "What are the benefits? What can this do for me?". A person can then weigh the goods and the bads and determine if Killer Home Recording is right for them.

"Turbo Member" would be a great brand name for a condom.
