Lying isn't so good for a business reputation.
Very well put, you beat me to it!

yeah i probably wont lie, to honest for that and my conscious would eat me alive, right now i'm semi pro and i don't have any issues without it, most people that bring in work from other places have them in wav format which opens up everywhere. maybe if i found a cheap copy somewhere for like less then $50 bucks i'd take it, but i seriously doubt that would ever happen. definitely not going to waste 200 dollars on a program that wont ever get used, thats like a half a tank of gas right there.

yeh... honesty is the best freakin policy.

you know you've got the skills, trust them. its your skills that gets you somewhere, not the tools.

It's called marketing and the public.
AKA the customer is right.

If they want pro tools give them pro tools.
Else go market to somebody else.

That's life. Ain't fair. Just is.
The world is full of idiots and nobody can fix that.

They may have pro tools and feel more comfortable if you use it.
Maybe their guy that masters your mixes wants it in pro tools.

Perhaps samplitude and wavelab name doesn't sound like it is pro level.

And if these folks are really idiots should you trust them when they say you sound pro? Just a metaphysical thought question.

A bossguy I knew told me that an ounce of image is worth a pound of performance. Look pro they believe you are pro.

So do what antoher guy said on a forum - get a big muvva mixing board (used , cheap , doesnt need to work). When people see that they assume you are a major studio level guy.

Once again.

I use Pro Tools only for mixing and for about 10% of the time.

I use Sonar for the bulk of my tracking and mixing work.

However, the large "Pro Tools" logo on my dual screens heads off the question from the client. He assumes I'm using Pro Tools.

If he doesn't know that I have Sonar open and thinks it's Pro Tools, something tells me he full of sh*t and is just following the uneducated hype of his peers.

Kid at borders got PT free from a buddy who bought it discount at their school. You can't use it without a PT interface but you could say you had it!! Find a student to give you some shelfware.

Who the hell says that the customer is always right?
Their checkbook says they are.
And in this economy they are really right if they are paying cash.

If you got too much biz send some our way.

I was just thinking this through, and I think there is a good answer for any kind of person asking the question...

Where is your PRS and Mesa Boogie Road King?
Where is your Alembic and Ampeg?
Where is your Neumann U87?
Where is your custom DW set?
Why didn't you borrow a Stratovarius?

If you want to swing a big dick and demand Protools, don't forget this stuff cuts both ways
