Re: There's a Rat in my Studio What am I Gonna Do?
Whether for now or in the future, a couple tips.
Never use poison. As garageband said, they're liable to die inside a wall and reek to high heaven and beyond as they rot. This happened in my house last month. Luckily some flies laid eggs in it, and the maggots took care of the rotting flesh much faster than if it had just rotted away. 'Course, the maggots matured earlier this week, and now there's flies everywhere. Small price to pay though.
Besides, if your cat had eated the rat after the rat had eaten poison, there would be a very good chance your cat would be dead right now.
Traps, traps, traps. I know mice will always fall for peanut butter, so it's probably pretty good bait for rats too.
A common mistake people make when laying traps is to put them out in the middle of the floor, away from the walls. Rats have terrible night vision, so they use their whiskers to navigate along the walls. Find a spot along a wall that's got rat shit, and lay a trap there. Though you said you found the entry point, so that would probably be the best place to lay one.
Also, mouse traps won't do the trick. You need rat traps. Be careful, spring one of those on your finger, and it won't just hurt; it'll break your finger.
