Default question

What "famous" song would you have liked to have your hands on, helped with the recording, or mixed -mastered?

'Bohemian Rhapsody' by 'Queen'.
The way the engineers used every available bit of all the 24 tracks they had is awesome. Like backing vocals on the same track as guitars etc. Someone gave me a the raw tracks to this song ( god knows where they got them and i'm not even sure I should be saying I have them LOL) but it is great fun to play around with.

Good call. What would you do different? I'd be afraid to get my grubby little paws on that one and mess it up! It's a masterpiece for sure. I've always heard that they did so many overdubs that you could see through the tape.

I'm not sure I'd have done anything differently, it's perfect how it is. I would just have loved to have been there.

garageband will become famous soon enough
Default Re: question

"Hotel California" I wouldn't miss that for anything. What an incredibly constructed recording.

From the other point of view, any of the early Chuck Berry sides. Those all sound like crap and they shouldn't have.

The Sky Is Crying by Stevie Ray Vaughan

While not big on the radio, I would have killed to sit in on that recording.
I love the sound and the mix. His guitar has a noisy hum that he felt didn't need to be removed and it really adds to the moment.

yes. Good choice.
It would have been awesome to have met the man and like you say, just to have sat in on the session.

Funny you should bring this subject up. Recently I was considering how Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) has released the multi-track files of his last albums (for free), and how much fun people are having creating over 4000 remixes of his music.

Made me wonder if this would be a way for the struggling music industry to make money?

Would you not try your hand at remixing or playing around with the multi tracks of your favorite classic song? And would you not pay for the tracks if reasonably priced?

Think of all you could learn just by examining the tracks.
