Default My Experiment In Audio Output

I printed the identical mix two different ways. Would anyone like to comment on the sonic differences?

On number 2, the vocal seems stronger, with more lower midrange energy, at the end. There's also something different about the percussive eighth notes but I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

I picked up an old Pioneer RT-909 a while back to run some family tapes my wife found in her dad's barn but I had never recorded anything to it. So #1 was recorded to the RT-909 (19cm/s) and then back into Logic and #2 was just bounced out of Logic. I was a bit surprised by the amount of tape hiss on it, maybe the machine needs some work. I know very little about tape and how much hiss is normal.

I don't think I'll make this part of the work flow. : )

I paid $10 for this Rt-909 and it looks like new, it also came with 9 large tapes - two were unopened. I had to replace the rollers and the drive belt. I understand these were/are considered to be a good consumer deck as it goes for 1/4" tape.

That machine is real capable for a consumer deck. Meaning, a A/B switching from tape to source should be near exact. I get some manuals off hifiengine, which should tell you recommendations for bias and EQ settings for different tape

You said something very similar for fHumble's VTM shootout. Apparently tape kills the lower midrange from your perspective.

That's the result I get when running tape emulation at 15ips, if it means anything. (Probably doesn't).

It's hard to guess what they are emulating - maybe crosstalk
