Default Mel Gibson

I decided the other day that, to me, Mel Gibson is officially a real deal badass director dude.

I watched Apocalypto the other night (for the second time). I consider the movie to be amazingly well executed film. Braveheart has been my favorite movie for a while now. It's tough for comedies to crack the top of my list, so the magician getting slaughtered movie doesn't really count for or against Mel Gibson.

My girlfriend wanted to watch King Arthur tonight. Well, I still consider Braveheart to be the ultimate film of that genre with Gladiator second but by a noticeable margin.

When compared to Braveheart, the cinematography in King Arthur reminded me of a monkey jacking itself off at the zoo. I seriously thought that Ali G had directed that film. I could go ahead and give King Arthur the 5 out of 10 it deserves, but maybe King Arthur isn't THAT bad. Maybe Braveheart is just that good.

So, I officially consider Mel Gibson to be the real thing director up there with Scorcesse, Ron Howard, Speilberg, etc.

I have only seen Braveheart, but it was quite good...

Have you seen the Passion of the Jew?

I'm assuming you are talking about the South Park episode and not the "magician getting slaughtered movie".

I loved that South Park episode! The notion that if Mel Gibson isn't a wacko, then Passion of Christ is a "good" movie, but if he is a nut job (maybe he is, what do I care?) then Christ's Passion isn't a "good" movie is brilliant and hits home here in bible Belt Land.

I liked apocalypto a lot. I was expecting something different from this movie but, to my surprise i got fully entertained. I personally recommend this movie for those who missed it.

I liked Apocalypto and also to some extent Braveheart although I think Braveheart did go some way into making the English out to be the most evil people in history which seams to be a continuing theme in American cinema.

Lets face it, even the Devil speaks with an English accent.

Personaly I go by many names

Apocaplyto is a good movie, I just wished it was about the fall of the Mayan civilization, and not just a chase movie near the fall of the Mayan civilization...

Did anybody else find it slightly funny that in the 'Langage Selection' on the DVD you could choose to watch the movie without subtitles? I knew taking 4 years of Mayan in high school wasn't a total waste!

That is ironic. I'm glad that education paid off for you!

It was only a chase movie for the last half. So, I'd call it "half a chase movie near the fall of the Mayan civilization..."

Speaking of "chase movie", I'm pretty sure the rules state that if in any part of the story you are chased by a Panther, you get a 50% bonus in points.

Only movie I have ever watched with subtitles was Passion of the Christ, not a bad movie, I believe I was the only one in the theater laughing at the gore while everyone else was blatting their little eyes out. Other than that I can't stand watching a movie in subtitles, because if you miss a line your screwed and you have no idea what the hell is going on. Major pain in the ass, besides if I wanted to "read a movie" I'd go read a damn book- besides isn't that what they made movies for? So people didn't have to read them?
