Default Large Hadron Collider

Since I've overcame my excessive frustration with current politics, I've moved on to Science land. I was just wondering if anyone else checks up on the developments of the Large Hadron Collider once a week.

Last I heard they finally got repairs done, waited for the right time of year (can only be started up in winter or something? cant quite remember), started 'er up and......

......... She broke down again.

So off they went, spending more taxpayers money in an attempt to WHAT?
BLOW US ALL UP!!!!

Well not really, they just wanted to smash a couple of protons together and the blowing us all up part was a minor possibility....

September the fifteenth I think is the re-start date, Some of the electrical systems for it were built here, I know some of the guys who worked on it, well I did, they were all sucked into a black-hole.

I'm against government spending in essentially every arena. However, I'm way more afraid that persistent pull towards The Dark Ages. The only way to stop people from being burned at the stake in the name of God is to keep on thinking. It's expensive, but IF (a big "if") it gives us the right answers, the world will be revolutionized.

No they didn't collide anything. It was sent around one direction and then the other. The test that were planned earlier this year were supposed to be the actual colliding part of the experiment from what i remember.

@Lateralus359 I think your right. : )

@brandondrury
I agree about government spending. we should be spending on things that make people more intellegent and open minded. The colider counts.... as dose music in schools as I'm sure we all agree. : ) the idea that we spend 54 bucks on a hammer is insane. mybe I should start selling hammers at 53 bucks....:\?
so I totally agree. money got bad so we pull out and don't fix anything just become scared (dark ages style) . what the government has forgotton is what people acted like in the dark ages.... it was scary then with all the dragons and witches and s**t.

54 dollar hammers are an artifact of govt accounting rules

accounting expenses have to be averaged over all items
according to the govt so the contractor has no choice --
so when you pay 54 for the hammer it
= 50 for accounting and 3 for hammer
but when you buy a 50,000,000 airplane it is
49,999,950 for the plane and 50 for the accounting for the plane

you wont get to sell any 54 hammers unless you also sell airplanes

for some small biz buy you will be paid about 3-5 for *A* hammer and eat the accounting costs which means you will lose money dealing with the govt

Yeah, this is my predicament with NASA. While going to space is about of noble of endeavor as I can think of, I can't say I'm impressed with the results of our socialized space program.

I just watched a documentary from 2005 about Burt Rutan's Space Ship One. (Burt Rutan is one of my favorite people of all time.) It was part of the contest for a private organization to make it to space. They ended up doing it for $25,000,000. NASA can't scratch their balls for that much cash.

I have nothing against NASA. I just don't think space exploration will ever be maxed in a non-authoritarian, socialist system. The political upheaval when a few astronauts die is outrageous. Unfortunately, this is the name of the game. It's accepted that thousands of people will die when fighting a war, but few people have any tolerance when astronauts die for a cause which I consider to be infinitely superior. Unfortunately, NASA is forced to play it safe way too often and this leads to dreadful costs.

Bad ass!

Brandon

what answers woudl be the right ones

the more i study particle physics
the clearer it is that God created this universe
and
it was not done by some random accident aka "vacuum fluctuation" to the max does anyone really think that a ten ton bomb in a junkyard would result in a car being put together ?

bad people will screw us over and grab power whenever they can
some of them even claim to be the good guys eg bush and bama
but are merely pawns of wall street especially gold sacks

love of money is the root of evil
who loves money more than politicians
especially the grumpy old perverts (GOP)
dems just love to spend it

until we have a major third party
you can look forward to more stake burning or the equivalent
by the govt who is here to help you
