I have a weird habit.

Does anyone else do this?

When I make a purchase, I pull out my wallet from my back pocket. I then remove my bank card and hand it to the clerk. While they are processing the card I close my wallet and put it back in my back pocket. A wise man would hold his wallet until the card was given back to him, rather than needlessly back and forthing it.

Am I crazy or is this common ?

I do the same. I think it comes from the idea of protecting my valuables, at least in my case. I keep a chain on my wallet too.

Not sure why I bother, but it makes my neurotic self happy.

I used to, but cured myself of it by jamming my fingers in the fold until I get the card back. I started to walk off without it once (at GC, of all places) and decided that was the last time.

A few months ago I flew to London to visit some family. When I arrived at Heathrow I wanted to buy something to eat but to my shock discovered that my wallet was missing from its usual place in my back pocket! Turns out I'd been pick-pocketed. I lost a good few hundred pounds and all my credit cards etc and found myself stranded with no cash.
I've since learned my lesson and now keep my wallet attached to a chain and in my front pocket.

Bleh. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, fortyseven. I hope you got away with just losing the cash and cancelled your cards in time.

Don't you wish you could find the person who did that and get some "alone" time with their nads and a baseball or cricket bat?

Well, over on this side of the pond, we'd use a baseball bat or a tire iron, but I figured since it was over there...


Wait, do they call it a cricket bat? Is there some other terminology for the wooden bat-like item that is used to whack the ball in cricket?

I've yet to spend any time in England so I don't have a clue. Heh.
