Thursday night I went to a (so called Studio) where a friend of mines was working on his projects for his demo. He re recorded songs that I had produced and engineered some time ago. The track was still getting the response I wanted from other listeners, which was good and the engineer was feeling the track and feeling me until,
HIS SHITTY MIXDOWN!!!! first thing first ... the man had protools 7 connected to the 8 channel digi 00 whatever (001 or 002) on a I think a MAC G5. My friend was recording rap vocals... the engineer recorded only 2 consistent vocal tracks and left them CENTERED and dumped lots of Dynamics over top of the vocals which made it sound uneasy to the ears or should I say more demo-ish than retail ready. When I asked the engineer to pan the tracks to improve on the vocal effect he got really bothered and told me: "I mixed it the way I think was official, if you want to do differently how about I save it as a session file and you do it YOUR WAY." (I told the bastard earlier, I use Nuendo!!) And he goes on about how he added chrous and delay and reverb and so on ... Im like he is a rapper not a damn diva! This was my expression ======> but I calmed down & let it go. its bad enough my friend was recording in some ... hole in the wall but the guy even went as far as charging him 50$ a hr!!![]() The sound booth wasnt even properly treated patches of acoustic foam here and there scattered on the wall like picture frames. sticky bug traps on the floor, fake gold records in picture frames on the wall of people he never worked with .The engineer already knew I had a repore with the artist on a musical aspect. I like to think that counts ...but obviously it dont. Any thoughts on this? |
