American Beauty
When it first came out I took the wife (pre-baby days) to go see it in the local artsy-fartsy theater where we used to live. At that time I thought it was pretty dumb and was pretty surprised to hear later that year that it won some kind of film award. Turned out the author lived not far away from us at the time and so he was written up all over the local papers when the award came through. I remember being puzzled by all that fuss.
Earlier tonight was flipping through the channels and watched it again on HBO and was blown away by it. Highly recommended. Charlie

American Beauty is a 1999 drama film that explores themes of romantic and paternal love, freedom, sexuality, beauty, self-liberation, existentialism, the search for happiness, and family against the backdrop of modern American suburbia. I saw this film 5 times. It was a good film.
