who are you a fan of the most as a guitar player

I've been listening to a lot of Robert Johnson lately...he's brilliant, but he wasn't exactly a technical player...either you get it or you don't.

One of my earliest influences used to be Kirk Hammett, but I quickly discovered that there are players much more talented than he is. The last couple weeks or so, I've been really into Alex Lifeson, Jay Yuenger (White Zombie), Adam Jones of Tool, and whoever the hell does the guitars on the Rob Zombie album "Educated Horses." I think I'm going mad.

okay so i didnt feel like reading 34 pages of posts, but ill assume a few of my posts are original
i started playing guitar because i was obsessed with green day, so my oldest guitar hero is billie joe armstrong
my favorite shredders would have to be synyster gates (avenged sevenfold) and micheal angelo batio
as far as blues/ technical playing, john mayer is quite incredible
unknown guitarist, yu from cinema bizarre
hes not much of a shredder but i like his sound/style of playing

The player of whom I'm the biggest fan of right now is probably Marty Friedman. I've liked him in Megadeth for a long time and recently watched several YouTube lessons of his that I really enjoyed. I always thought a lot of his solos sounded playful on top of always being technically awesome.

You know, a lot of so called great guitar players only play through tons of effects. A true guitar great will make his guitar sing and dance with very few effects.

I'm amazed at how good I am when I'm playing through my GT-10 but when I turn it off my guitar doesn't sound as good, it must be broken.

That's some pretty amazing playing, which coincidentally, is not being drowned out by the excessive use of effects.
