well, I play maybe a quarter as fast as he did (not the solos.. the riffsLOL) but his style is/was fantastic.. I think he was too talented for metal.. but he liked it the most so.. one candle burning here for diamond.. Rest in peace

My reply was very defensive because I've seen so many cases where one influence is crushed by peer pressure. Dont' get me wrong (I own ever Pantera record), but in my experience, you were shunned if you had an influece from The Edge and not from the Dimebag Darrel.

I'm a little dissappointed how post Pantera era of metal has turned out. I give it 0 out of 10. Maybe, I've just changed.

I'm not necessarily against the genre of metal, I just find that guitar players tend to be pushed into that direction. I'd like to see more diversity in guitar playing styles. In my area, you are either metal or blues. That's really disspointing to me because there is so much more out there. Ideally, there would be 100 guitar players on the forum and all 100 would come from a different place musically. Give it a few monthes and this will probably turn into a metal only forum. We shall see. I want diversity.

well.. I dont play like diamond I like his style.. I like his solos and I like his setup.. and.. I dont know him in person, but he seemed to be quite normal..

well.. a band normally has a direction if they are on a label.. pantera was on a label and they had to do albums.. someone had to buy the albums.. thats it.. people wait for PANTERA.. they wanna heir PANTERA.. thats it.. the same happend to metallicas load.. great album but not metallica..

I dont wanna start a darell thrad.. he had a lot of diversity but played panterasongs.. did you count his "guitartricks":.unbelivable.. if I compare him to vay, malmsteen and satriani, he was able to play in band and play songs.. not solos called songs

I like other players too.. blixa bargeld is a very good guitarist.. mr slowhand.. and then.. the other 100'000 witch dont come to my mind..

but I got what you mentioned.. metal has little diversity.. thats true..

Right on!! I have been listening to "Your Living All over Me" a lot lately. One of my favorite compliments I ever got was when I was haning out with J. going to get Slurpees after a show we both played and he told me we were the best band Donosuar Jr. played with the whole tour. YLAOM, was one of my fave albums at the time so it was cool to hear. He could of been full of shit, but still way cool to hear.

Alright, I'm mainly a folk musician, so my influences would have to be Neil Young, Stephen Stills, and Bob Dylan. Sure, they didn't have much lead stuff (except for Young, who is pretty damn good), but they were all great folk guitarists. Buckingham is also on my list of influences, and so is Petty. For lead stuf (of which I do very little), I'd have to say that Clapton and King are my influences, because I do mostly blues on lead guitar.
