well i am wondering who plays a huge part of how you play your guitar style... what makes you want to play like them or be like them and also where did you first get turned onto them? myself i guess its gotta be Doc Watson, Jimmy Page (acoustic stuff for the most part) and of course Merl Travis. i learned of Doc when i was a bunch younger and always loved the way he played with a flat pick, someone at a Blue Grass show gave me the tips i need to start playing like him, after that it was easy. Jimmy Page was something that i heard all the time at work this summer and just fell into it, now i am learning some of hs style but making it my won as well. Travis picking is just cool! he had a beat that i love the feel of and the sound is so easy going and smooth! ohhh i love it, it also makes the girls swoon and get all hot and bothered for some reason, lol we all love that i guess right?

My style is based primarily on two people. 1. George Harrison 2. John Frusciante Of course, I was introduced to the Beatles at a very young age & have continued to be amazed. I had heard of the Chili Peppers in the late 80s but was not familiar with Frusciante until Blood Sugar came out in 91. I loved the guitar work but wasn't really influenced until '99 when I heard his solo records. Amazing stuff. |

I would have to say the guitarests with most influence on me are Willie Adler (Lamb of God) and John Petrucci (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment). I love the straight ahead riffing of Willie and the shred and versitility of John... Not much more to say. -Deng |

THE EDGE No, I'm only joking. I've only been playing for a month, so my influences are sorta narrow and yet to become mature. My biggest is probably Mike McCready of Pearl Jam. Page, Hammet, and Mustaine. Also, I've always been a fan of Adam Jones' (Tool) sound. He's not the most talented player in the world, but he definitely filled his niche. |

What's to joke about The Edge. U2 has been a little boring, but they have written so many great songs. In the midst of those great songs is some really cool soundscapes. You don't have to defend your influences on this forum. Actually, I totally hate these stereotypical posts that seam to dominate other forums. People will jump up and say "X guitarist sucks" if you don't happen to toally agree with what Guitar World ads tell to go with. If this forum ever gets that way, I'll have to start deleting posts. Why is it we feel we have to defend ourselves for liking U2, Elton John, Billy Joel, or Phil Collins but music that is not nearly was well written, inspires much less people, and took less talent to make is totally acceptable? Screw it, I'm making a new topic. Brandon |
