Default What is your guitar rig?

I'm looking to hear what guitar rigs are working or not working for people.

If you are really happy with your tone, let us know.

Hey dude you just mixed some songs for me and I decided to join your forum. Plus the $300 prize was a good bribe.
My rig:
Guitars- Fender Fat Strat Texas Special, GIbson Les Paul Standard(heaviest fucking les paul in the world)? with a 60's neck and a Tacoma acoustic

Amps- Marshall JCM2000 50watt thru a Marshall 4x12 cab with Greenbacks, Vox AC-30 reissue with blue alnicos, Orange AD30TC and a Mesa Boogie 1x12 extension cab.

Pedals-Boss pedals:Chromatic tuner(2), flanger, phase shifter, super chorus, noise supressor, Ibanez digital delay pedal, Line 6 DL-4 Digital Delay Modeler, Dunlop Cry Baby wah pedal, Digitech Whammy pedal, Pro Co Rat, Seymour Duncan pickup booster,? and an Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9.

I also have a Guitar Pod XT that is a piece of shit.

I have some decent guitar gear but I have yet been able to get good distorted tones in recording. I have gotten pretty good cleans using my Vox mic'ed with a Royer R121 off-axis right against the grill and a Studio Projects C1 about 3 or 4 feet back, but whenever I record distortion it sounds like shit. I've read the articles on this site and hopefully I can learn some stuff to help me out.

It's truely amazing how easy it is to record clean tone and how hard it is to record distortion tone. My theory is it's all at the source. If a clean tone sounds great and you hit a channel switch and it sounds like shit, it has to be the source. If a clean tone is captured accurately than a distortion tone will be captured accurately.

I'm not saying that you can't do different things for clean and distortion, because you most certainly can. However, when you are recording a guitar cabinet you are really just recording the speaker. So in my opinion, it's all at the source. The big boys are certainly doing something differently.

Dude, if you are on a budget, there is no substitute for Agile guitars. I'm selling all my American guitars because they are of no use to me anymore. I'd rather use Agile and put the cash back in my pocket.

my main live rig looks like this

Gretsch 6012 acoustic. (for the small unplugged gigs)

Guild D25 with Fishman Rare Earth pickup. for rocking

homemade strat from the Saga music company.

Line 6 Spider II 1x12 30 watts

its not a bad amp for playing live but its not something you record great tones on. for that i would borrow a tube amp!

i of course use Fred Kelly thumb picks for fingerstyle playing. and Dunlop nylon flat picks.

i have a source for bulk guitar strings that cost me about $1.85 a set!

The Tele is exactly what I was looking for. I couldn't be happier with it. Sounds great and plays great. That's all I need.
