Default Re: What's Your Yamaha Guitar

I bought my first guitar, an RGX-112 in 1991-92 from a Simpson-Sears catalogue, for about $200. I have locked the whammy bar (I never used it and it would send everything out of tune), added better pickups and pro tuning heads.

It's seen miles of road, quite a few gigs and jams, and has been played by many a guitarist who say it's fun to play, and put me to shame thinking it's not a good guitar - when they make it sound so good. It's been played by myself and others in live performances, original bands, and pub jams.

The key is of course, the customized pickups (can't remember the brand - good ones though) and the tuning pegs (so it stays in tune). Without those modifications, and the removal and locking of the whammy bar system, it wouldn't play or sound half as good as it does now.

It's basically a Strat-copy I think, and that's how it was marketed. This one is the same color and model as mine, but mine's not so beat up.

I just bought a Washburn DD-60 for $600. Sure not a fancy guitar either, but it sounds like crap compared to the Yamaha, mainly becuase the RGX-112 seems to have solid body, and the DD-60 is a lot lighter.

I'm currently using the Yamaha RGX-112 on my home recordings.

I have a Yamaha SG1000. It's the best guitar I've ever owned. I believe it dates to around 1979. The pickups are tapped via the push-push tone controls. It has a blue finish with mother of pearl block inlays and ivory colored binding. Also gold hardware. It can sound like a LP, a Tele, Strat, etc. I know some people who think Yamaha guitars don't compare to the American name brands but they are wrong in this case. I have been playing for over 20 years now and have owned many guitars and this one is the best. Unfortunately it is no longer made-BUT-Yamaha has introduced a reissue under the model # SGB1000. I haven't seen one around to try yet but it's supposed to have all the same parts as my SG1000. I'd love to hear opinions from anybody who has tried the new ones out.

This my first post, but I've been collecting yamaha instruments for about 9 years now. Here is what's I've aquired...

yamaha AE500, semi hollow, all black, 2 yamaha HB pups, 2 vol 2 tone knobs. Set neck. Bought used for $250 with nice TKL HSC.

yamaha AES720, two tone LP style, 2 DiMarzio super distortion HB pups, 2 vol 1 tone. Set neck. Bought new from MF for $350

yamaha AES 620, same as AES720, but with blue maple top, brown back, set neck. Seymour Duncan bridge pup and yamaha neck. bought used for $150.

yamaha SE1203A, strat style body with through neck, 3 active single coil pups, 1 vol, 1 tone and 1 mid boost knob. Yamaha proprietary locking tremolo/vibrato, gold HW. Really sweet guitar bought used for $300 with OHSC.

yamaha BB615, 5 string PJ bass with active electronics. Silver body, rosewood fretboard, maple neck, 1 vol, bass/mid/treble EQ, and 1 P/J mix knob. bought new for $259 with soft case.

yamaha stage custom 5 piece drum kit. All black with yamaha kabuto snare and pearl picolo, using a pearl rack system. Bought new for $599 back in 2001. still sounds awesome today.

My first guitar was a Yamaha Pacifica 712, I still have it, color red sparkle, made in Korea.

The 712 has two single coil and noe humbucker wich I replaced for a Seymore Duncan, and no floyd rose like the 721.

Excellent guitar for learning and playing, it is my horse for battle! I bought it in 1999... how many memories...

Cool Re: What's Your Yamaha Guitar

SA 500

semi-acoustic

£200/$400 about 2-3 years ago

Two Tone, Two Volume, 3-way Pickup Selector

Colour black. White inlays.

Pups, two open black Yamaha Alnico Humbuckers, chrome poles

Chrome bridge with six individual string retainers, one of which was broken on collection from local music shop: quite shocking - the shop i ordered through seemed to be sulking over purchase / price? ended up obtaining a replacement retainer from Yamaha UK (freebee) and re-setting the action myself - axe came with manual showing relative string distances from fretboard. Shop very reluctant to help, have not been back since

Best guitar i have owned. Had a Japanese copy 'Maya' Les Paul before this one - the Yam is better, no string buzz, in tune all over the neck, and sweeter tone - the neck goes right into the body, is not bolt-on; heavy solid body adds to the tone perhaps

play through amp with overdrive (for sustain) and/or pedal or stomp box but would be curious to compare the Yam pup pair with the Seymour Duncan blues set for example.

Yamaha BB300 bass. My main recording bass, its very punchy and sits in the mix perfectly.

Yamaha BB614 bass. Most of my songs have two bass parts; a "normal" one, and then a melody line played high up the fingerboard. This bass has a good high-end.

Yamaha DD55 digital drums. I have a drum kit but use this for percussion instrument sounds.

Thumbs up Re: What's Your Yamaha Guitar

Yamaha RBX 270 Bass

http://www.musik-produktiv.de/img-10...bx-270-yns.jpg

am no bassist but use this for recording - started out with a Fender-copy bass which i instantly sold on, picking up this one on the rebound, both used buys. it's a joy to play, relatively light and perfectly balanced. play through the Yam GA15 amp but up the bass tone in software equaliser ~ sounds great!
