I really like the jonny cash guitar-sound from his last 2 albums. metal.. maybe dark tranquility - damage done, metallica - master of puppets (i like this totally clean distortin in the mix), from the newer albums maybe the last devil driver album. its hard to tell.. I listen to the overall-mix and how instruments fits in there.. can you imagine a KORN guitarsound on a megadethalbum? no me too ![]()

This is a great topic! Without a doubt my answer is U2 - The blaring alarm intro to Until the End of the World (before the drums kick in). It is so absolutely unlike anything I have heard before or since. How do you make a guitar sound like that? That sound transports you to another planet and prepares you for the sonic assault you are about to experience. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? |

I like The Edge, Santana, and Eric Clapton's guitar sounds. All of them have a sound that makes it so that even if you don't know a song, you can tell they're playing guitar. -Tyler

I'm excited that almost all these posts have focused on the players fingers and not the recording tricks. In my experience, the bands that talk about how Eric Clapton sounds (for example) vs how his guitar, amp, and pedals sound will sound better on his/her project. If you take an active responsibility for the way you sound in the room, even a crappy recording engineer should come out with something pretty good. I was honestly expecting more talk of tones, but you guys are talking about players. Good job. That means you "get it". Brandon |
