I am cursed with corrosive sweat and a normal set of strings would last me 4 hrs of hard playing, or one gig. I even rusted out the bridge pickup housing on my Tele! Elixers have been a godsend. Fixed my rust problem and they sound new forever. |

You need Ernie Balls if you have EMG pickups...... There used to be a youtube video on it, and I just searched for the link but can't find it.... Anyway, it made a big difference for me

I usually use Rotosound strings, they come with an extra top E as well which is handy. What about string guages? After some experimenting I go with the standard 10-46. Did try 9's for a while and it was insanely easy to play some stuff I had found fairy tough. String bending was a breeze (so much so that I even considered trying 8s just to see how much easier it was) but overall I didn't like it. Was overbending when really fired up and they felt like they would snap. Also a bit light in sound and not so good on tuning on my Les Paul. Tried 11's which wasn't bad but I had to play all the time cos if I didn't play for a couyple of weeks they were a real struggle. So I went back to 10s. They work nice. On my acoustic I just put on Martin Lights. One time they sounded awful but I had no choice but to use them again and they sounded great haha. Not figured that out yet. Don't really change my strings a lot. A couple of times a year maybe. I don't break a lot
