"all pre-amps sound the same"...."no string preference" I'm calling you out, dude! I can't believe with your experience, etc that you never notice these differences in the audio!! Maybe you just always focus on the song, or use good studio technique to make songs sound good and so admitedly more minor stuff like strings don't affect you as much... ...just wondering... Of course, since I only do one or two thigns (play/write on guitar and piano), I have lots of chances to focus just on strings, so maybe it's just a question of focus... phil |

I use D'Addarios on my acoustic, and Fender bullets on my electric. Don't really know why, they just sound and play better than others. -Tyler

i personally use ernie ball skinny top heavy bottoms on my sg. i play in drop c, and since the strings are thicker, they give me the tone i want. as far as my acoustic, i use elixers.

I use whatever keeps me from playing bad notes! ![]() All seriousness aside, it depends on the guitar. Les Paul - GHS Boomers Strat - Fender Bullets, 10's (gotta keep that floating bridge happy) Tele - Fender Bullets, 10's Acoustic - D'addario

I like the coated titanium Ernie Ball strings, particularly the "Skinny Top, Heavy Bottom" ones. I play a lot of heavy rhythm stuff, as well as all kinds of lead. The range of these strings sounds nice and balanced for diversified guitar players. With the extra coating of titanium, they last much longer than without. Plus, they always sound great when freshly installed on your guitar. You know that new, bright sound that a fresh pair of strings have? Well, these have that sound for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy more than just a couple days with vigorous use.

Curt Mangan strings are better than anything else I've played. Curt evidently worked with Ernie Ball for many years before going off on his own. Great tone, great durability--I break maybe one string a year and I play hard. Further, you can order custom sets if you order a dozen at a time that have cool vanity labels.
