Default Which VST plugin for Mac OSX, recording guitar

HI Guys,

I need to record my guitar onto some backing tracks, using OSX VST.

Can anybody recommend any good fx plugins? I'm hoping to plug in (I'll make sure it's a line-level signal), and use the plug in for al the guitar processing.

Also, I'd be grateful if anyone could PM them to me.
Thanks.

Any plugins to process electric & acoustic guitar. Effects processors (distortion, cab emulators, modulation etc.)

Well, I've never really been happy with any "simulators" that I've heard in terms of electric guitar plugins. Native Instruments Guitar Rig 2 came with Komplete, but I thought it was fairly useless when I tried it a few times. With that said, one lead track that I was goofing around with a 3am made it on an album I did, so I guess it's not totally useless. However, if "real" tone is desired, the direct method still doesn't really do it.

As far as processing real guitar tracks, I usually stay pretty dry. Occassionally, I'll use a delay or something and I may use an EQ every once in a while, but that's more of a "fit everything into the mix" kind of thing.

For acoustic guitars, I'm not a fan of DI. I like mics on acoustic guitars. Then processing may use reverb or delay but usually they are pretty dry too.

I'd start with Kjaerhus. They've got some interesting VST plugins, but I'm not the guy to talk to about guitar simulators.

Amplitube is another vst amp simulator designed for recording your guitar plugged directly into your interface. I have done a lot of DI guitar recording, and I got my best results running the DI out of my tube modeling amp into a mic preamp then into my interface. i dont know if this is a standard practice but i noticed the mic pre gave it a ****er less fizzy sound, although still not as good as a mic'd amp.

Thanks guys, I'll have a rad up on the net of all the things you've suggested. It's a good starting point for me to get going. I'll let you know how I go on.

Garage Band comes with some nice amp sounds, and the new logic has some great sounding simulators too.... I really like using a Tube preamp into a sim plug, and it seems to work "decent" nothing beats using the real thing but when you are dealing volume limits then headphones and a VST or AU plugin, is about the only way you can turn....

try looking around on kvraudio.com
