What do you people out there think about playing/recording with multi effects pedals?
And what pedals do you recommend? I've got a zoom GFX1 and I get some amazing sounds and distortions with It! |

Yea you might find it more pleasing on recordings then a live setup. I and (many others) stray away from multi effects and processors for live gigs due to the fact of its synthetic sound that it produces. But Im sure there are plenty of people that love them live, Im just very oldschool in my ways.
Note* there is a very very limited amount of national/professional players who will use multi effects to get there "core" sound. |

I just plug it into my marshall valvestate amp (I use It as a pre-amp) and then to my pc through the line out of my amp for my recordings, and the distortion is amazing! but my crate gt212 120watt amp has got the best distortion ever but I cant capture it with sm58's as I want to! It just doesn't sound the same in the recorded track! |

Judging by your location Im guessing there isn't much there for amps, pedal etc. So that tells me you probably haven't had too many chances to play a higher end amp such as a hi-watt, boogie, marshall etc. So your idea of tone is allot different then those who are able to. The tone on your recordings isn't bad at all but....It still sounds fake. And I believe once you get ur hands on a good quality rig you'll never look at your multi effects ever again.
*I recommend you take a look at the peavey 5150/6505's those are great rock/metal/ all around amps that would fit your style superbly. |

the frontman and former 2nd guit. in Opeth use a GT-8 with their Laney stacks on clean. their tone imo is brutal, at least with the stuff they play, i feel like that plays a part in it too. but when they use chorus or the like on that thing, it sounds bad. So i guess in their case, the GT-8 is a damn expensive dist pedal hehe.
In any case, it's nice to have the quality control of putting together a collection of pedals that are of your liking. It's more expensive, and not as convenient as one board, but it's worth it in terms of control over your sound and overall quality, assuming you have good taste ...which is of course subjective. |

Henrich, you could get one cheap off of ebay I'm sure if you wanted. I'd go for it, but honestly, the tone you're getting from your valvestate is wonderful. Just try different mic positions, A LOT OF THEM. From what I've heard on your earlier recording, the tone has tons of potential. -Greg |
