the longer i play guitar the less i get all weak in the knees about Taylor guitars, its not that they are bad guitars or sound bad or are just plain hard to play or any of that at all its just.... well ALL OF THE BANDS ON FRIGGIN MTV! got a taylor... the new T5 seems like a cool idea, when i tried one out it felt like plasic... i think i lean into smalll shop built guitars any more or somethin... i can get a Carvin guitar that from what i remember of the last time playing one sounded just as nice as a Taylor after some playing in and setup... whole lot cheaper too...

I think the Taylor line is pretty damn good but I personally don't like them much except for their 900 series with Engleman top... that's a really nice sounding guitar but they all bottom out when you dig in hard. They are so much easier to strike a good hi>lo balance on than on any of the Martin's... that's for sure

The last ac guitar I bought was a Goodall cedar/koa cutaway. It's incredible sounding... BUT sometimes/most times you just need the sound of a spruce top guitar

It's interesting that you don't like Taylors. They may have changed in the 5 years since I did my shootout, but the Taylor was the overwhelming winner the day I tried out every acoustic guitar in the entire Guitar Center.

I find that I'm not impressed at all with the modern Martin acoustics guitars. Anything before the mid 90s is damn good, but it seams that the newer Martins just sound boring to my ears.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like Taylor guitars but would not want to own any of them (pay for) except for the 900 Englemann.... (except to gig with there is an 814 cutaway I liked)

I'm not surprised they beat everything in Guitar Center... now... go somewhere where you can play some really great guitars...
I searched for several years until I found that particular Goodall. I literally played everything except an Olsen. When I picked up the guitar and played it, I knew I had to have it... small coronary when I saw the price tag but anyway... now I need a really good spruce top "normal" sounding guitar

not saying i don't like Taylor its just that they do not get me really hot and bothered or anything... i see so many bands playing Taylor now and its kind of like "there is the all American boy band with a Taylor guitar" i just as soon play my Gretsch i guess since its got a weird look to it... but then again i spent all day yesterday in Sam Ash and i played a 614 with ES through an amp and cound not get it to sound bad.... i must say though that it only sounded like any other acoustic guitar i have heard on the radio these days, nothing to make you crazy... my Gretsch sounds good, not "the greatest tone in the world!" but it does sound good... for jaw dropping acoustic tone i like a company called "Huss & Dalton" they make some tough sounding acoustic guitars with an edgy gutsy feel to em when you hear them they sound really balanced but they have a thundering volume to em!
while i was in Sam Ash though i found a Larevee D 03R or what ever the model was and it sang like a bird with its rosewood body and spruce top... it was a lot deeper sounding than the 810 Taylor... then again the Larevee cost half what the Taylor did also ringing up at only $1019.99! its a sweet guitar.

here is a shot of me and my Gretsch

Was that back in the civil war? ha ha

Well maybe when I have my huge console, a great room, 25 German condenser mics, and a lot of free time I'll do some research and get the most mind blowing acoustic guitar ever.
