Yes, I have a JC77 bought for £100 six years ago. Hisses a lot, but it's paid for itself several times over.

There's a JC-50 on the Bay right now with a BIN of $99 - no speaker but SUPPOSEDLY it works fine... I'm really tempted as the old Rolands can't be beat and the CLEAN I get is STERILE clean even cranked up - which when I use my BOSS (Roland Also) GS-10 with it or my Korg Toneworks it COOKS! And there's nothing quite as LUSH as Roland's Chorus...

I'd go for that if I were you. To be honest, my only complaint with mine is that it is a little too bright for my taste, even with the treble control rolled back some way; and I've been thinking that something like an Eminence 12" bass driver, as Polytone used to use I believe, might help to mellow the sound a bit. It shouldn't be too difficult to find a replacement speaker, but my tip would be not to go for anything too sensitive as this is one LOUD 50w transistor amp.

Practically stealing a very well-known model of guitar amp is a cool deal. It has nothing to do with "sleeper amps"

agreed, I used to have a Roland GP-16 roland rack processor and I still recall the lusciousness of that chorus

Yeah, several of the amps mentioned aren't sleepers.

if we want to start a new thread about great deals on amps, I have a great one.

1986 I bought a Whole Marshall stack with a 1974 100 watt head, two 4x12 cabs for $450.00.. yes thats right $450.00. the head needed some work and one cab didnt have the old vintage 35 watt green backs. but it was one hell of a deal.
