+1 on the guy who said Traynor. Any old Traynor with tubes I've ever run across was a little weird and wonderful.

An OLD Roland from the 80's - ROLAND DAC-50XD... 4 Speaker Combo that also has fully configurable effects - Long Delay, Short Delay, Flanger and Chorus (lush Roland Chorus) - has a Full EQ Section (Bass, Treble, Mid) along with Presence. It also has Gain, Volume and Master Volume. I have a few different amps including 3 tube amps but this is one SS amp that I wouldn't sell for any amount - they're too hard to find. It has the most beautiful cleans, it's loud as hell and very FULL sounding. Clear as a bell too - it'll blow the windows out set on 6 or 7. The built-in distortion is typical 80's but set clean with a Multi-Effects pedal and this baby ROARS.

p.s. I've dusted the old girl too and replaced one of the missing orange caps (on the knob) from my 15-watter (DAC-15XD) before I gave it to a 15-year old kid here in Jax (another ampless dude I know from the neighborhood who needed it). I'm lovin' this baby and even though it's SS I get some amazing tones out of it. DEFINITELY a Poor Man's JAZZ CHORUS!

That's correct. I have exactly the same amp, but it's been nearly untouched for about two years now because I had to sell my cab. I can't decide whether to bring out of retirement of sell it. The amp I'm rocking now is a Traynor YCV20 with Eurotube's Blues package. I love it. Once I put a new speaker in it I'll probably want to keep it forever.

Find yourself a Blackface Bandmaster head on e-bay or Craigslist. They usually go for around $400 to $600. Evn one that doesn't work is worth $300 because EVERYTHING on it can still be easily found and installed.

These are 40 Watt all-tube tone monsters that are really under the radar right now in favor of the Deluxe Reverbs and Princetons which are going for $2000 +.

However, this is the one amp that will serve you well regardless of the type of music you're playing. I run mine through either a 4x12 or 2x12 cab that are both wired to 4 OHMs. If you use a cab that is rated for 80 to 100 watts the tone can be adjusted anywhere from fat and bluesy to sparkling clean.

Plus, there's nothing that has more panache' than a Vintage Fender... nothing.

Well, the old 50watt was selling used for $50 back in the '60s. My twin reverb was cheap, and my brown princeton was $30. A newer Deluxe Reverb I got for $200. They are nice, but they are not worth what people are paying. I will probably be buried with the pair of boxed period 6L6GC in my pants to keep me ****.

I found the Peavey Windsor to be a great single channel amp with the switching of pre-amp tubes you can get almost any sound you want out of it from nice W A R M cleans to very aggressive distortion. Right now we have 1 Mesa Hi-Gain, 1 EH High Gain and a Sovtek (inverter) and we are getting almost as much gain as a 6505. It came with stock JJ's in it and had more of a ACDC Marshall sound to it. It is a very versatile ALL TUBE 100w Amp for $400 and if you get lucky GC and Musicians Friend runs deals on them all the time with the cab for free.

I like the Laney stuff - VC30, etc. Inexpensive and sounds nice.

Have the Traynor ycv40 but it's obviously a lemon, and has been living at the repair shop. Ongoing standby problem.

Another plug here for old Roland amps - I have a JC50 - the unloved smaller sibling of the JC120. Loud, clean, indestructible. Lousy distortion, usable reverb and that great 1980s chorus sound. Best of all, I paid the princely sum of 56 English pounds for it, a couple of years ago on eBay.

Another jazz amp tip, although you're unlikely to find one outside the UK, is a Peterson. They were made by a small British company in the 1980s and early '90s. Small box made from solid mahogany (very classy), two channel transistor amp with either an EV or Eminence speaker....many times better sound than a Polytone IMHO, and you can still find them on eBay for £250 on a good day. I've had mine for 18 years and it's a keeper.
