I have a room 4mx6m that I'm making into a practice studio. I'd like to jam and learn songs as a 4 piece band as well as recording. What would you guys recommend as the best amp power in this situation for jamming with in this size room?- for lead and for bass? I will be using a live drumset. Not sure if 15 Amps is sufficient or 30 amps too much. Just playing standard pop/rock type music - nothing heavy. Also in this situation - would you advise going for a Line 6 type amp with built in effects? again - its just jamming use and nothing too serious or top end for our requirements Tks for your advice |

Just my opinion but none of the Line 6 amps sound any good, especially the spiders. Before I settled on the AVT had an Epi Valve Jnr,Laney VC 30,Tiny Terror etc you get the picture none of them sounded as good or were as flexible as the Marshall. |

I use a Fender Princeton Recording-Amp. This amp has a built in power soak that will let me run up the output tubes for overdrive and, at the same time, dial back the actual sound output. This feature also lets me make the speaker a little bit less efficient. This lets me run the amp very clean by increasing the signal to noise ratio to the speaker. It also has direct outs and preamp outs. It is a little bit expensive, however, for a 15 watt amp.

Tubes might be a little over the top for a utility amp to cover rock guitar and bass in jam mode with drums. There are usually plenty of little Peavey 30w types at a good price on eBay That will push two guitars "alright".

I would say definitely not 15W. I'm not sure how much louder tube watts are but, 15 solid definitely wouldn't be enough. You might get away with 30, but in my friend's basement that wasn't enough either... but also we have metal-style drums and also only one guitar (maybe with 2 you don't need each individual being as loud). But I'd recommend like 50W, that's what I got most recently and that is plenty. Again, never used tube watts so that's probably a whole different ballgame.

Oh, amp modeling is nice - some better than others - and you can always add a outboard unit. Using a straight amp will let you learn how to make the tones your self rather than just switch flippin'.
