Default PA advice please

My son has a 3 piece band and plays progressive/rock and some metal.
Going to buy 2 Yorkville Nx55p's for rehearsals and small live venues 100-150 people.
Will these work ok for a small live performance running bass, lead guitar , and 1 vocal. the possibility also they may run a roland TD-3 kit as well but mostly acoustic drums unmiced or maybe kick only.

would appreciate opinions please and also a recommennded decent but reasonably priced mixer. something with some basic effects for voacals maybe.

thanks

Those aren't big enough. A better alternative is the Samson DB500A.
Plan on miking the snare as well as the kick. You'll be surprised how much of the kit will come through that mic. It really will sound low budget if the snare's not miked.
Pick up decent used Mackie or A&H 12:2 on eBay for not much. The used market has all but collapsed for most of the mid to lower end pieces. If you get a Mackie VLZ, grab a Quadraverb or Nanoverb. Cheap and fast and adequate. Mostly cheap.

Do you mean 15"asopposed to 12 inch on the yorkvilles.
Power seems similar

Agree with garageband. Over the past year I ran sound for my sons (twins, 15 years old) band. They do about 2 shows per month for an average of 150 people per show.

To get started, one power amp with the recommended cabs and mixer (as discussed above) will work. As they grow, I recommend getting a second power amp with one or two monitors (the second monitor for your sized group should go to the drummer --- okay, I'll hold the drummer jokes).

I run two power amps; one for the FOH and one for the monitors. As garageband says, if you can, mic the kick and snare. It does make a difference in both the FOH and monitors.

Once the band gets more proficient, think about mic'ing the guitar amp. Yeah, the guitarist usually doesn't like turning his amp down, but it gives a whole lot better mix and sound to the group's performance.

This isn't my experience. My "real" live experience is only with one band through about 20 gigs. The drummer had been through major label boot camp and used a Ludwig Black Beauty. While we did mic the snare, I ended up using essentially zero of it in the mix even though we had about 20,000 watts of power for gigs in the 500 people ballpark.

I guess it depends on the drummer and this may be unique to the room and such as well.

You are running drums through your monitors? The drummer in question is light years from the people I'm used to working with! Without the snare mic'd, if I'm within 15 feet I squint every time the snare is it. It's just that damn loud.

Yes, I've been running sound for young bands. They mic their Marshall amps and yes they demand to have kick and snare in their monitors.
