I own one. Mine works fine, and the tones are realistic. Now, you said you are disappointed with the sounds you are getting. Are these the factory presets or or did you create your own patches? The factory presets are generic in nature and are supposed to be tweaked. This is why Line 6 has Gear Box and POD Farm. These two programs allow patches more easily than simply twisting knobs.
One more thing, creating quality guitar sounds requires experimentation and a bit of research. Creating patches for cover songs requires more research if you want to mimic the tone unique to that song.
