Default old squier amp

so i found this WICKED old squier amp. it has to be almost 15yrs old. it was in one of the closets of my parents basement. so i took it because i figured maybe i could do some weird kinda guitar fx stuff with it. i dont know. so i took it and mic it up with an SM57 and an MD421 going straight into an mbox. i didnt expect much but i wanted to see what i got.

i've posted a sample of it here. i'm actually surprised at what i got from it. considering its a squier, and the knobs were completely frozen when i first tried to turn them.

let me know what you think. is it usable? is it just crap?
i dont want to trick myself into thinking i found something useful for free...

the riff is from Iron Maidens "Flight of Icarus". i love it :]

I'd use that in a heartbeat. I have a little fender side kick that I consider one of my secret weapons. With my vintage DS1 and es335 it smokes. I don't care for the clean tones a whole lot but I use it frequently as a spring reverb instead of digital plugs. I have included a picture. You can hear it in BTR. It is the one on the left and the solo. Hell of a Time

It's worth keeping !! I wouldn't exactly call it a find - a Squire. Chances are it will fill the bill in many applications.

I was messing around with some more with it with the gain set real low so it would just break up if I played hard enough then I put a amplitube plugin and the tracked channel and it really enhanced it so it a kinda clean grungy thing. I liked your song btw man. I think that fender is better sounding than my squier. I think I might try to find one of those.

AM, I liked your "practice amp set on self-destruct sound". I had one of these once. It was great until it self-destructed. It's particularly great stuck in a huge empty concrete-floored space.

Sometimes you need something that can sound crappy. Not that this amp did. I have a 60's Sears guitar that sounds like a combination guitar/ banjo in the worst way. sometimes it is just what a track needs.

That's a totally usable sound in a number of situations. Tear the label off of it (if you are recording other people) and keep it.
