after reading brandons thread about marshalls I think I made a mistake... I bought a mg 100 hdfx about a year ago and I play a gibson sst chet atkins through it. For the life of me I just cant seem to get a good sound out of it. I play in a 3 piece rock band and when I crank it up it just dosn't seem to have enough power... any suggestions? dew |

I've had pretty good results using a sansamp tech 21 for recording but live with the marshall just dosn't cut it. I try to read up on everything ... the idea of trying out amps at GC just dosn't work for me. All those kids in there making all that racket makes it hard for me to focus... and here is the embarrasing part. I'm not a great lead player but I'm the lead guitar in this band, and I'm a older guy so I feel pretty stupid trying out amps at GC. I have a stable job so I can pretty much buy whatever I want, any suggestions would be very much welcomed. and thank you very much for taking the time to reply. dew |

If you're gonna play in a band, you're gonna have to lose those inhibitions about playing in front of people at Guitar Center. Those people aren't paying to hear you play. |

icarus, the sst is it for me, I have access to a les paul (belongs to our drummer) but I'm after a particular sound, from clear finger-picking to slammin rocknroll. For me there is only one way to audition an amp and I can't go into guitar center and do this... YouTube - You Keep Me Dancing by Morning Dew but your suggestion about a acoustic amp is not something I've looked into and will explore. We run line out of our amps into the pa and usually mike the drums into the pa also... but you're saying to bypass the marshall and run straight into the pa? I'll give that a go, at this point I'm willing to try anything. hey man thanks for replying at least I've got something to try instead of tweaking this marshall. dew |

If your gutiar requires an acoustic amp as stated, then there is no way around it apart from either changing to an acoustic amp, getting a different guitar, or getting DI box. As stated above the DI box will bring your guitar signal up enough to make it sound good through the amp. My advice though.....if you're wanting to play lead and don't think you're quite there yet. I'd suggest getting a standard type of electric and playing gig after gig after gig with that. It will be a great deal easier to play lead on than your current guitar no matter how sweet it is....and it does look like a sweet guitar might I add. I guess what I'm saying is surely you don't need an excuse to buy another guitar? ![]() Oh yeah....one more thing.....be careful with going direct out into PAs. In my opinion the resulting sound can sometimes sound very thin and harsh. However its been a long time since doing that and much has changed since then. What is easiest for your sound guy is rarely the best for the artist. |

I found an answer! I ran the gibson sst into a yahama mixer aux'ed out to the marshall. Crystal clear!!! High gain channel, singing sustain and it Roars!!! I thank you guys for getting me to think out of the box! dew
