Default Need new amp, and your help

I currently use a Marshall AVT 50, it's just not pulling its weight anymore. The tone I get is airy and feels like it doesn't have any chunk to it. I want an amp that was built from the ground up for quality, and not built to be the loudest. I will be using it primarily for recording, so wattage and/or volume isn't really a concern of mine. I have tried VOX modeling amps, and am pretty impressed with the quality of the tone for the money, but not so impressed with the versatility/customizability of the tone.

I'm looking at spending 500 or less hopefully. I know that's not much, but I don't need a big amp. Actually I should mention at this point that I am primarily looking for an amp with a great clean tone, not so concerned about the distortion channels because I will be using distortion pedals to get my desired tone.

Fender Blues Jr. It's a single channel tube amp. It takes pedals and has a decent clean channel. Plus it's 15 watts with reverb. New, these are $500 to $600. Used, under $500. Try one before you buy one because one man's clean might be a little too fat for someone else.

I've been recommended the FBJ before. Never got the opportunity to try it though. I checked on my favorite online retailer and found three of them at different prices. Can't for the life of me find a difference though.

Fender Hot Rod Series Blues Junior 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp Guitar Amplifiers at Music123.
Fender Hot Rod Series Blues Junior 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp - Brown/Oxblood Guitar Amplifiers at Music123.
Fender Hot Rod Series Blues Junior NOS 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp Guitar Amplifiers at Music123.

I don't know what the deal is with the NOS model being more money than the others. I believe the brown/oxblood may be a closeout color. MF also has them at $499.
