I work at Halo Custom Guitars and perform a lot of the setups there. I ran into an intonation problem this past week I found interesting: The low E was in tune when open, but it went about +40 cents sharp when fretting the 12th fret. Typically, I would just back the saddle away from the nut, but I knew the action at the nut was too high. So I left the saddle as it was and lowered the action at the nut by 0.017", which resulted in the Low E string being properly intonated when played open and at the 12th fret; I didn't have to move the saddle at all, the problem was with high action at the nut.
I thought this was pretty cool. Rock on
