Default Fast Track USB = Crappy Tone???

Hey,
Ive been using the M_audio Fast Track for a while now. I know its very cheap compared to real audio interfaces/ preamps.. But could part of my shitty guitar tone be attributed to this? When Im recording live, the tone sounds great from the amp, but when it hits the track in Sonar, it sounds like shit. And Im using 2 57s in all different configuration, so its probably not the mic technique?
Also when I record direct from my GNX3, the headphone out from the GNX3 sounds great, but when I use the Headphone out on the M-Audio, its sounds thin and harsh.
Am I doing something wrong"????????

I'd say you are losing maybe 1% using the Fast Track USB verse using $1,000 converters. The rest of the tone in your amp and how you are capturing it.

If you are using 2 SM57's, you may be getting phase cancelation. Try putting a 1-2 ms delay on 1 of the recorded tracks and see if you get some of the tone back
