Default famous bands recording setups

This started as a small discussion on what pickups used Megadeth on their albums, but I think this will be of some use for those who are interested.
We could also expand to what these bands use on stage.
Well, going to the point we could start with those pickups!

This is a tough question. I kind of just said this in my other post, but I'll duplicate it.

We could say that someone used X amp in the recording, but does that mean it was the only amp in the recording? Modern guitars have so many layers that it's hard to say. Is using a Marshall the same as using a Marshall with 4 layers?

As outlined in my latest Wagener article, the guitars were blended at the console. He had 3 amps and 2 DI's going into his console (being extremely careful with phase) that he would blend. Sometimes he'd use extremely little from one amp and sometimes he'd use a balanced approach. Again, he just played with the faders until it sounded cool. He then blended that all down to one track.

With this setup, the guitar player could say the used Randall Module Plexi, Randall Module Rectifier, Engl amps, Randall cabinets with the DI option, and whatever the other cabinet was. To further complicate things, no grills were used on the speakers. Amps are way brighter when using no grill (which can a good thing when using ribbon mics) but is something you'll never get live because who is going to gig without a grill?
