Default acoustic guitar help please???

hey guys need a little help....
1.i bought this new acoustic guitar...but i've got tuning problems..
if i tune the strings EADGBe then they dont match at 5th frets but if i tune one string and match the others at the 5th frets...they dont turn out to be EADGBe and the sound seems a bit odd...

2.whats the use of a scratch plate??
3.my bridge is movable...i can take it out i can move it sideways and its not attached to my guitar....my friend says there is no such thing..a bridge must be fixed on the guitar....but mine is not....any suggestions???how can i use it to get a better sound from my guitar??
thanks.........

Sounds as if you need to intonate your bridge...google it....at least I hope you have a " Floating " bridge, or you have some trouble !....Good luck !!

Just one small thing, "WHAT IS IT???" Tell what kind of guitar you have, unless that's part of the puzzle. OR uplaod a picture of the bridge....something....

Right, a hollowbody electric with a standard archtop bridge. I have one like this, a Gibson ES-165.

Get the action you want first by adjusting the height of the thumbscrews. Adjust the Tune-a-matic saddles so they are farthest back on the low E and farthest forward on the high E, with the rest staggered in to between the two. Drop the B back twice as far out of line. Get you tuner out. Compare the fretted 12th string note to the 12th fret harmonic note. If the fretted note is higher, move the bridge back. Keep comparing and wiggling the bridge around until you get it. Once you get it locked in where it works on all strings and the strings stand centered on the fretboard, leave it alone. Next time you change strings, change one at a time so you don't have to do this mess over again.
