Hey Guys!
I have a new Mix This for everyone after months of not doing one.
This track is called Afraid Of What's To Come.
It's by a band called First Fracture
They are a good group of guys, and all I ask is that if you download the files to mix, that you go over to their facebook and give them a like, or show a few friends. They work hard at what they do and could use the support.
Continuing onwards.
The mix I posted is a final version, we released it a month or so ago. I recorded their last album, so I already knew what they wanted with this record, and I gave them just that.
This mix was a pain for me because I made a lot of mistakes during tracking. I had hoped to only use amps for this record, but my tones just werent cutting it when I got to the final mix, so I ended up running the DI through some amp sims to beef that shit up.
If you listen to the DI tracks you will hear they suck. (Quality wise). I can explain, I swear! I was testing out a new method of guitar tracking where i would run the guitar through a splitter, send one end to the amp, then the other DI. That way I could group the two recorded tracks and make my life editing 10 times easier since I can actually see the waveforms instead of a huge distorted blob of sound.
That being said I had no intention of using the DI tracks, and when I plugged them into my interface I got a weird as hell ground loop (Something to do with the splitter and amp running off the same power...hell idk but I found a solution). My solution was to run my passive reamp box in reverse (it has a ground lift which eliminated the ground hum bullshit), and so it acted as my makeshift DI. Remember I wasnt going for DI quality here.
That excuse only applies for the Distro guitars. All the other guitars were done properly. I only used DI bass btw.
As far as my final mix goes. The only samples I used are the samples I took from the actual kit when we recorded.
Anyways, enough blabbing, here are the tracks. (I record in 96k, but I sampled down for you people that claim there is no difference).

Awesome. I'll prolly use 12 Stones and Skillet as my main references for this. Thanks, Adam!

My idea is 27.66 as of 11:06 Arizona time. I snagged it last night but haven't listened to the clip yet. so I'll do that now.. Oh looks like fun - like the distortion. I dunno about the expression pedal : ) I need a better chair, too. I've been on a hard plastic chair from the '60s - kinda the lava lamp of chairs

To me, it sounds like the biggest issue with the guitars as tracked is there's just too much gain on them, so they lost most of their definition in the amped tracks. Is that what you felt was the issue with them that made you reach for the DI tracks?I had hoped to only use amps for this record, but my tones just werent cutting it when I got to the final mix, so I ended up running the DI through some amp sims to beef that shit up.
Out of curiousity: your mix doesn't sound like the original drums. Did you just process them awesome, add some sample layers, are completely replace the close samples? IIRC you usually use real samples from the kit you're working with...
Hello Adam !
I've downloaded the 44.1 version... there are 2 synths tracks that are empty... no sound at all... is this right ?
Regards, Badá

I actually thought they had to little gain to be honest. I managed to get what I wanted with definition after EQ but I lost a lot of the power. So i subbed in the DI for that.
All the sounds are the real kit, plus samples from the same kit. Nothing was totally replaced, just mixed in. I refuse to use external samples in my mixes anymore.

For info, I'll download it tomorrow. Nice song, it will be fun I think (despite I'm don't mix very fast and Slate Digital Cup April's stuff is waiting for me).
Thanks a lot for those tracks![]()
Cool song, I'll hopefully find some time to take a stab at this too, though it may not be until next week sometime.
I've gotta finish my Slate Digital mix for April this week, plus I've got a theme song to write, record and mix for a client over the weekend, and then next weekend I'm doing some tracking with my own band, and my mix efforts for the following week or two will most likely be devoted purely to our album.
That said, it's good to be busy!

For SDC, there will be also metal, electronic and others (which one)
There are only 10 months to go![]()
Thanks guys, I appreciate it!
I'm excited to see what people can do with this!
