Straight up rock mix this time. Guitars, drums, bass, vocals.
This song came from another forum, I had it on my drive from the beginning of the year and only just opened the folder to mix last weekend.
I think it's a pretty decent song, and was fun to mix. It shouldn't be TOO challenging, but there is a lot of room for creativity.
Tempo is 210bpm, but I didn't need to do any tempo based editing.
A short clip of the song is below
Please don't share this beyond the Member's Only forum. This is for educational purposes.
Rules (this wouldn't be a challenge without some rules!):
- This is just a mix
- No overdubs
- No sample replacement, try to get great sounds from what you have.
- When you post a mix, you must critique the previous poster's mix.
- Have FUN!

Thanks, Acoostic Zoo - Recording Studios Brisbane www.acoosticzoo.com
ugh, I've tried a couple different hosting sites and it looks like I'll have to go back to megaupload. Those damn captchas are so hard on there though!
not much longer, I'm a day early anyway.

Woohoo! Mine is the first one!
I spent about 5-6 hours on this mix and I'm quite pleased with it.
Tell me what you think!
EDIT: For some reason the audio is too quiet after upload so TURN UP THE VOLUME!
EDIT 2: Here's the .Wav version if anyone's interested. It's quiet too so my mastering skills must suck.http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/918204/Final%20Mix.wav

Great job.
You managed to get the kick punchy and never got lost, something I had some trouble with.
I like the panning tricks on the little guitar parts.
Your vocals were pretty "dry", but that may just seem to be compared to mine with lots of reverb and space echo on it.
The guitars sounded a bit fizzy at times.
The vocals didn't always stand above the rest of the mix. Some more compression or automation would help with that.
I couldn't really hear the bass.
Some of these things will be caused by your room and monitoring situation. Some are subjective, personal taste things. Overall a great 1st attempt. I usually do a couple revisions for any mix.
Here's mine. There's some issues with the bass, and possibly too much reverb. I may update this later. Approximately 3-4 hours mixing and messing around with my new Roland Space Echo.

first the rules, Audio geek the mix was good. I realize you were experimenting, but I found the verb a little distracting...like I have room to talk hehe.Secondly, thank you once again for giving me this opportunity. Though my own "music" has been criticized (rightfully so)I feel you have been the one in this hole site to lend a hand to the less fortunate among us. with that said I put a six pack's worth of time into this mix, plus coffe which came first. Though this song is too "pop" for me, I enjoyed every beer of it. oh well destroy as you may...![]()

I have some suggestions for your mix, but I'll save them for a bit, or PM me for them. I want to make sure the next person gives you a review.
However..there was a guitar part missing @ 2:50. Intentional?

Thanks man for the review. I agree with some of the things you said and some of them are just personal taste issues like the dry vocal. Never liked too much reverb on vocals. I'll try to upload a .wav version of it because I just hate mp3 compression. It just destroys all of the ambience of the mix and makes it dull.
About the rules, who's mix should I review?![]()
ok here my go at this it's not as full as everyone else ,i'll be glad to take any critique, now about the previous mixes i hear,i think they are all good cptfisco is mix is a little off with the filling vocals the other two songs are good a little off but good .mixing alone is hard even the pros have another pair of ear in the room with them ,most of them will explain how they mix a song using words like we were or we thought ,so when someone mix a song and post it we must remember that it this is a learning process and no everyone is gonna like it and try not to get to defensive.with that said hit me hard with your comment.
About your mix Germzzz, like your approach, totally different (especially in the way you treated the guitars) from what I -and the rest until now - did. Its a bit off-genre and pumping like crazy (a bit to much for my liking), but I do like the way you handled this.
And cpt fiasco: your overcompressing in my opinion, and its both a bit muddy and harsh at the same time (your ride is very very loud), and the vocals get a bit buried at the end.
Audiogeek; nice mix, but you overdid a bit with your new toy
All the great, I liked the panning trick with the guitas, but, as a consequence of this all the guitars are more or less centered throughout the entire song, and thats a pity (in my opinion). And your vocals are a bit buried.
Well, here we go...
All the best, Aldo
Try just posting a higher bitrate mp3. I use RazorLame to encode with the settings: -b 112 -m s -V 0 -B 160 -k
Which is 112Kbps minimum, 160kbps maximum bitrate (variable) no filtering and a bunch of other stuff.
Even 192 or 320kbps Constant bitrate would be better.
You can review mine or do like Odla has done and do a quick review of everyone's so far if you want.
