    Default -Country Deluxe-

    Hey folks,

Here's my entry. Shooting for the gold medal on this one.
With this mix, I tried to think different while staying somewhat still "in the box" if you know what I mean. Nothing super crazy on this one, just bluesjam's take on this bad boy.
Thanks again for the tracks, and for the people who bashed this up earlier this week.

Alright! There's a lot to like about this mix. It's clear, it's clean, and I actually felt some IMPACT on those big re-entries. The tasty organ licks usually came through without cluttering up the mix. Cool.

One thing I just can't get behind are those chorus background vocals. They JUMP out, in a weird way . . . in my head, I get this image of a ghost materializing behind Daniel's shoulder, yelling soooooongs!, and then poof! Gone. Kudos for trying something new and different, but it just didn't work for me in this case.

On a side note, the bass seems a bit boomy. I fought this bass for a while trying to get rid of the boom, so who knows? It could just be my speakers. I hope others can chime in on this for some perspective. Also, I notice a lot of high end in a lot of these mixes. It's pretty fatiguing - but I could see that being just from having listened to this song 1800 times today.

    This entry is no slouch.

I agree. The added BG vocal might have been a bit far for a producer - risky - but the mix was good, smooth, present, clear.

I also feel that the added vocals didn't work for me. Doesn't sound country. The mix was nice and clean with every instrument clearly audible.

Great clear, balanced mix... Clever Bgv's were cool.
    Well done...

Nice mix and arrangement. Overheads distract me being panned so far either side. Thats one very wide drum set. I like the original ending and not the fade so much. This was a very clean mix.

Thanks for the compliments NS. I figured the BGV would be a cool thing to try even though it was a little different than what you'd expect. I know what you're saying about the bass being boomy, too. It's a little more so than normal, but that's just what I went for this time.

Pretty well balanced. I think the acoustic is more buried then I would like. I like the back ground vox ideas. Another singer doing them and not so far panned would be better IMO but you likely didn't have that to work with. The piano came off a little thin as did the general mix but not out of acceptable limits.

    Competent work.

    Thanks Paul,

I know what you mean about the backround vox being the same guy. You can tell, you know. But, hey, I didn't think I could do better myself, so I did some cut and paste with the vocal track.
    Thanks for the compliments.

The drums don't sound like drums to me. The shadowed vocal on the chorus is cool but less (fewer instances) would have been more. Odd thing about this mix is that all the performance unevenness really comes out at you. Can't be sure why that is. If you are going to use the organ to accompany the singer after the interlude, you should drop the guitars out all the way. With them barely there, it sounds like a mistake. Although the piano sample itself sucks, you can try a little harder to fix it.

Without risk, music is pointless. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Hallelujah! An outro. Nice solution, but a bit longer, please.
