The verse sounds ok (at least to me). It kind of gives the song a slight "cool down" and then guitars jump out. Dynamics...They'll always make things sound more interesting.

How about a listing of the instruments/amp and signal chain?

OK, I'm an old gray haired rocker, from "back in the day"... and this tune has that Sum 41, power pop sound, to me.

Nothing wrong with that! I think its an awesome tune!

But, for my tastes, I think it would benefit from "today's" style of mix; one where everything is louder than everything else...

The guitars were pretty much in my face, but the vocals weren't - and I think they (vox) more than anything, should be "in my face", at least on this tune... During the bridge, I was hoping the snare would have a lot more body and presence...

Remember, these comments are related to my tastes; your tune is really good, and you should mix it the way you want to!

Wow! Great sounds! Well done on the mix, playing, song etc...re: the vocals - This is definitely NOT the easy way but...sometimes a key change can do wonders to the lead vocal - try a few different keys until you find the one that really matches the singer & vocal style - Other than that, have you tried putting some overdrive on the vocal? Just enough so that when you solo the voice you know it's there, but not enough to be noticeable within the context of the mix...I've often found this really helps a vocal jump out of the mix!

I think the vocals are too wide and are competing for the space where the heavier guitars are sitting. This is only during the heavy parts of the song.
Other than that it's sounds real good.

Great song

All I have is a Onyx Sattelite interface, sm57, mxl 990, and bx8a monitors.

- Drums were programmed with EZdrummer.
- Guitars were tracked with a epi les paul, sm57 miced up on a Carvin Mts combo
- Bass was recorded direct through an overdrive pedal and then I used cabinet impulses to make it sound like it was miced.
- Vox were done with the MXL 990 in my closet.
Thats it.

I will try taking the chorus effect off the vocal and see what it sounds like to clear up some space.

I tried to mix that modern style where everything is louder than everything else...the only problem i run into is that everything is louder than everything else. hahah, but seriously its not easy work.

thanks for the listen.
