Question Vox Problem

Hi Guys,

This is one that I plan to redo the vocals on anyway, but I'd like to know where I went wrong. I was hoping to get a dark, sombre feel to the vocals via the EQ but instead just got a little muffled and muddy. the result is the vox seem to sit on top of the mix and are too loud.
Any thoughts on where I went wrong and what I should do about it?
Thanks in advance
Phil

Well, as far as I'm concerned dark and muffled go hand in hand. They are kind of the same thing.

What's happening here is you've got a mic / voice / etc with a lot of bottom end. When you knock off the high end, the low end seams louder. So maybe you need to take some off the low end as well. I'd use a shelf and go pretty subtle with it.

Yeah, the vocals are a bit hot.

That high hat is mega mega bright. Can you turn it down?
