Smile This Time Around

So this tune is a song my band just wrote a few weeks back, we recorded it and I mixed it pretty quick, I think my brain is tricking me and telling me it sounds better than it does, please help! Bash it all, my brain has heard it too much to recognize a whole lot of mistakes.

Thanks!

Dude, the song itself is really REALLY a great song and the singer is very good, but MY GOOD GOD, do you think you compressed the drum bus enough!?!!? It's pumping like a blood pressure monitor! Cut down the threshold a whole lot! The drum tone is even very good, or seems it. You need to really do that before I can judge teh rest of the mix.

I think you overdid the drum compression or you need to figure out which way go want to go with it. The crack is too short to me. You can easier use a slower release to let more drum through or you can use a faster release and a more conservative ratio/threshold.

Your 2bus appears to be pumping REALLY hard. You can hear the guitars get pulled down with every kick drum hit. Did you use a compressor or a limiter? This sounds more like a compressor.

Overall, you got a very good thing going here. You came close to the big boy sound but it just ain't quite there.

You really smashed the vocals the vocals, but I dig that. In that verse thing you REALLY compressed them, I would probably go with more of the telephone effect to make it stand out as being "different". I'm not excited by the straight lined Autotune thing.

Not a bad song.

This song really is killer, I'm thinking if you do what the experts above say, you have a winner on your hands.

It is an awesome song!

Mere opinions- repeat the part right after the drum into instead of repeating the drum intro.
The interludes at 00:24 and 1:22 drag- straight guitar quarter notes don't do it for me.
It gets confused with no bass at about 2:24 before the quiet part.

Definately radio friendly.
