Hey, ran across this site only after I recorded my mix, and just noticed this forum (BTW, all the articles I have read from this site are very insightful and helpful). But I thought I'd run my first "demo" past you guys of the "Bash This Mix" to see what I can do. First my setup: Yamaha Stage custom advantage kit, Shure PG57 on snare, high tom, and floor tom (all 4-6 inches away from head pointed at center), and an Audix D6 inside the a hole in the resonant head off-ceter about 10 inches from the beater. The guitar is a fender strat (some cheap-o type guitar) with a flanger effect run straight through a Behringer europower PMX2000. My recording software situation is pitiful, but this was recorded with a trial run of N-Track Studio 4. Please focus main criticism on that of the drums (I am a drummer), as I have never had guitar lessons and don't actually play the guitar (the most I can do is play 2 strings at a time, not counting 1 chord per 5 seconds). There is no theme to this song; all it is is a riff that my minimal guitar abilities devised with a drum track that backs it up. Mix Demo1 Alternate Location: Demo1 Looking back (and forward): I didn't have access to an overhead, so cymbals are soft and ambient drum sound I wish I could have recorded through an amp or cab (but like I have any of those things) I plan on investing in an SM57 very soon (my next purchase) I am in the process of raising money to build myself a recording PC. As I said, my software recording stuff and sound card are at best, pitiful for this application. The goal of this recording was to get a feel for how it should do things in the future (recording actual bands, etc), and is not intended to be nay kind of "studio quality recording", though it would be nice if it was. Bash away please. |

Not really sure what there is to bash here. It's just drums and guitar, and you already know the drums weren't miked will and that the guitar is ugly. Sorry man, got to give us a bit more to work with. ~Zen |
