Hey guys sorry I haven't been on in a while, it's been a busy couple of weeks.
Here's a song I did for my friend, it's for her dad's birthday and I felt like helping her out
let me know if there's anything terribly wrong with the mix, thanks for that!
Cheers,

Great song and arrangement. I'd be interested to hear what you used in the way of drums and other instruments.
My only criticism would be the vocals sounded a little harsh at times and possibly need a little EQ tweaking. But then coming from a half deaf old man it may just be me!
Great vocalist too!
Cheers
Dave
it is sounding good to me.

thanks guys! I listened back to the version I posted and did notice a few spots where the vocal stood out. I've fixed them up, and increased the instrumentals during the chorus for more punch. Lowered the drums slightly to give me more headroom and I now 'almost' hit the the levels of the likes of Taylor Swift and such. Any more and there would be extreme noticeable distortion. This should make my friend happy, I'll be sure to tell her that you guys said her voice is nice
She's one of those singers who doesn't really know that she can sing so well. No autotune! Gah, If only she was more confident in herself haha.
If you want, I can post up the 2nd final. If not, thanks for the quick help guys!
Ahh... that is gonna be one proud dad! I just kept thinking of his happy face while I was listening
I did hear a couple of just slightly harsh vocal lurch-bits and would really like to hear your second mix. It's so happy-pop, made me smile.
Lovely natural singing - which is a delight!
the sound is great! but did she say her pops would smack her for demonstrating sibling rivalry? that just seems so bizzare if i'm hearing that right.
Here you go Emma, the 'finished' track! Hopefully the harshness on the vox is gone, and I went for a massive chorus at the end. Hope it all works!
Super job. Sounds really, really good to me.
Cheers
Dave
Great Song.
Just one thing, i think the snare is a little bright.
Cheers,
Dean
!!!! Is it ever really finished ???
Pull down the lead vocal. Other than that, really nice. The toy piano is too loud by about 1.5 dB.

Hi Jeremy; Just so you know, I searched for this song into the wee hours of the night and again for about an hour this morning (no title, or description), knew it had something to do with Dad. I stumbled across it the first time and it blew me away! This song sounds amazing. Could you spare some details on how you recorded that vocal. Reminds me of Fiest. What was your input chain; ie. mic, preamp, location, software, processing? It sounds so good, I would'nt change a thing.
Art.
Hey man appreciate it! About the vocals? The track is now in my "done" collection and I'm not home to check the backup drive but I'll try to detail it to you from the top of my head. Tracked 8 inches from an AT4060 with a little compression in. Used slate digital Mixer plugin set to SSL as the first plugin, some Eq (Hpf at 90Hz, wide bell cut at 259Hz and slightly sharper on at 440Hz). Then some compression, fairly hard at least 4 dB of gain reduction. Added some EQ (boost at 10kHz, 3.5 kHz and 18kHz). Used a little bit of parallel compression and tube saturation, slight delays and 3 reverbs.
There are some things I'd change listening back, I would be a bit more careful with the low end info in this Vox, still some things I'd like to fix (if I was to remix) but ehhh. Lol. Also, i automated every sibilant wordinstead of using a de-easer.
Hope that helps mate, chuck up a track if you have time, shall help you out!
Thanks for the detailed response, I am really learning so much here. The only detail I missed was what you converted your AT4060 with (ie; preamp?). Hard to believe the signal chain as it sounds so "natural" over my monitors. I do plan to put a few of my mixes out there, but I feel like "that skinny kid at the swimming pool." There are so many good mixes here! How does one deal with copywrite here?
Thanks again,
Art
I think this sounds really nice. The only thing I might want more would be some light reverb on the lead vocals in some of the parts where it's by itself. But the voice is really nice, the harmonies fit together nicely, and the instruments sound great.
