Default Short clip - Help?

Hey everyone!

This is the ending clip of a rough draft recording we did of one of our songs. I guess I just need general pointers. Take note that the bass is really crappy (our bassist is getting a nice Fender American J-Bass pretty soon) because we just recorded it by just shoving it in an instrument input in my audio interface since his amp isn't working right.

The rhythm guitar, I realized, was out of tune. I tried hiding it, but the mix is too empty without it. My apologies for that.

The drumset was recorded with three microphones. A $20 dynamic on the kick, SM57 on the snare, and an SM58 wedged between the middle and high toms.

So..yeah, I'm still very inexperienced in the world of recording, so bash this as you see fit and I'll do whatever I can to fix it!

No ideas?
(sorry for the bump, just, I don't want the topic to float to the bottom of the page)

I don't know much about mixing but I think the bass has too much treble.
And I would turn the kick's volume down.

But I guess it's all a matter of taste.
I do like the music though. I would love to hear more!

I kinda agree. The bass isn't filling the mix enough. Its a great tone coming out for the "midrangey" stuff in the bass, but the kick lacks any significant low end (which is good because of the kick rolls -- it would sound really muddy if it were any different). So I recommend trying to fill that with some more bass sustain. Bring the guitars and the snare up to level with the kick and the bass, then, and you should be pretty set.

The guitar hurts.

I like the bass.

The snare sounds extremely thin. Did you mic the bottom? Otherwise, I'd say that something is out of phase. Of course, the fact that you only used 3 mics reduces this.
