Not sure what to say about this recording, very new to this whole thing. Could really use some input. Doesn't sound too bad through headphones.

Interesting. Sounds "live" in a band rehearsal room or something. What mics and recording equipment were used? The music has an old "jam band" feel to it, the girl singer has kind of a NewWave/Punk vibe in her vocal style. Seems like I can hear a lot of the "room" in the vocals especially.

I like the song/arrangement, though the performance is rather loose; as stated above it sounds like a rehearsal. I like the girl singer's attitude, but her vocals don't come through enough "in your face" in the recording.

It is a rehearsal, we were just learning the song, it had been written three days prior. I'm not sure about the mic she was using.

Hey splitdorfman - congrats on posting!! I'm getting some shades of Patti Smith here... there is a cool punk smash feel to the track and I had the feeling I'd really like to see the band live.
But... it does feel muddle fuddled (concise Emma descriptive term coined from Dr Seuss) without enough definition to satisfy my hungry ears. I want to hear the words and I only get glimpses. It could help if you described the recording process perhaps??

Out of interest I just checked it out through my ear buds and it had a heap more life - through my infinity stereo speakers it sounded foggy. Quite a huge difference actually. So what format have you got it in and are you able to play around with it some??

Ok, I'll let the cat out of the bag, (why are cats in bags? Not good,....) Shades of Patti Smith just makes my heart putter, thank you! I'd like to see them live too! And yes it is muddle fuddled but hey that's what you get sometimes.

Ok, I was hoping for more suspense to build but this may be all it gets, lol. Damn! Oh ya, the recording process!

It was on a boom in the middle of the room, lol! And it's very small, you can hold it in your hand easily! It's lite and egronomic! And it only costs $200! Anyone wanna guess?

I'll send you a copy of the lyrics.

All right, I'll give it up, (drum roll please) ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! It's an H2 Handy Recorder, but the file has been 'normalized! Does that count? I'm taking night classes, I'l have this recording thing down on no time!

Really, what kind of input are you looking for? You have to know how your clip sounds. It sounds like a jam room recording on a tune you're not 100% on, with one or two inexpensive mics into an inexpensive recorder. It's exactly the same as when I was in high school 30 years ago.

I know what the clip sounds like. And I think you're being a little hard on me here. I just wanted people to hear the song. The 'input' I hoped for would be concerning the song itself, (which I have recieved form the other two people who posted, (read above). I knew it wasn't going to be much of a bash but hey sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get something heard. Even as it is, I'll take it over some (many) of the things I've heard on here.

I just listened to a couple of your (Garageband) songs, you really should be nicer to people. Thanks for the input.

And if you were making recordings 30 years ago that sounded this good you must own a major studio by now. Thanks for the input.
I'm not following your logic. Using my dad's Teac 1230 and pair of EV 664s in our drummer's parent's basement has really nothing to do with what I have done with my life musically from then to now. However, here's my point. It doesn't sound good but it's like when... well, when you did exactly like what you did. People have been doing this for forever, usually being too embarrassed by the poverty of the results to show anyone. And you're welcome.
And I think you're being a little hard on me here. I just wanted people to hear the song.
Not in the slightest. If that's case, it would be helpful to say so. That's why I asked. The lovely Emma pointed out it's tough to make much of the song out.

I believe she was referring to the lyrics. And like I said, I've listened to a couple of your 'enriched' tunes and still think you should be nicer to people.

"It sounds like a jam room recording on a tune you're not 100% on, with one or two inexpensive mics into an inexpensive recorder. It's exactly the same as when I was in high school 30 years ago."

You're right about everything, but your over looking the song itself. We'll find common ground on something in the future. Good wishes to you.

Now I'm confused. Is your measure of niceness the degree to which what I say agrees with what you wanted to hear?

Again, not 100% following what the music I make has to do with what we're talking about, which is how jam room recordings are pretty un-useful for evaluating material and are basically hard to listen to. We could talk about how to ameliorate that, if you'd like.

this needs to be listened to live through a massive marshall stack an ampeg rig and a screaming P.A
its always going to be hard to record in a verby rom all together.

i`d try doing a semi pro attempt.
use this as a ghost track and re record each element on seperate tracks and build from there, but yu`ve deffinately got a nice tone and songwiting going off!
    very refreshing!
loving the controlled angst feel to it,
i was just waiting for it to go `all out` and blow my head off. but as u said its still being jammed.
i say dont worry about the production too much for now and keep jamming it, let it evolve. sometimes u cant rush them. you`ll know when its ready to record

    nice work

    :-)

Thanks LazyE, I hear the volumn that the guitars lack big time, I want it to sound like restrained thunder. I'm going to get some more RAM and a deticated sound card today so should be headed towards a better version relatively soon. I'll see what I can do in the "blowing my head off" area.

Tell me more about using this as a ghost track if you can, that sounds very interesting. Someone also said the vocals need to come out front, that sounds good too. This recording is actually almost two years old at this point, but I still know the people from the band and they're all still around. Who knows, how this will end up it can only go up from here. Well I could destroy the whole feel of the song that you picked up on, hope that doesn't happen.
