I don't like the guitars. They are very bitey in the 1-2K region. It's easy to get thinking that pro guitars are mega bitey, but even the most aggressive guitars have a smooth quality to them. Try the "crank it up" test. Turn up X metal song really loud and see if anything hurts. Now turn up your mix really loud. That should illustrate my point.

What amp were you using?

I have a feeling that the amp is the culprit. This sounds similar to some of the Line6 amps that have made their way into my place.

Is his name dave elefson? 8-)
1-2k region is frequency region. Just use eq to change the frequency content of the guitar track with it. Also beat veariation or possibly alternating samples on the drums will make them sound more natural.

Grab a parametric EQ. It's 1,000Hz - 2,000Hz.

I can't help you there. You said "my" dream tone and I have a feeling it'll be different than my dream tone. That's a quest you'll have to pursue.

Again, you are on your own. It doesn't work that way.

Well, it looks like I wasn't a bit of help this time.

Maybe, but I'm not dying for anyone's sins. It's too long until next Easter.
