    Default Riccitunes/PopRock/Mytery Man

Used Izotope Ozone5 for the pre-mastering of this tune. Not sure what is needed to obtain a finished or publishable result. But Ozone is a big help for non-engineering types like myself. All comments welcome.

Equipment: Cubase E5, Focusrite Pro 14, AKG C14, SM 58, EZ Drummer, Ozone5 and a lot of re-takes.

Very nice. You could notch up the drums a little. Good singing. Watch those sibilant frequencies on it, esp. as it hits the reverb. Since I like this as much as I do, I'll lay out a couple things. The intro doesn't work the way it is. It's too unfocused. "That's the effect I was looking for." Look for a different one. It tells the listener that it won't be as good as it is. Similarly, the guitar solo is a little tentative. That bit of unattractiveness shows up in the outro as well. Really sell that thing. Some funky (funky/bad) piano notes around 1:52. Really tremendously good on the whole.

I've always had great respect for your input, and your comments are spot on. The guitar solo is the only part I didn't play and I agree, (despite all the splicing and dicing), it doesn't match the feel of the tune. As for the piano parts, that's all me and I would go a step further than (funky/bad), fortunately, it's midi and I can move and the delete the markers at will. I'll be re-visiting this soon. Thanks again bro!

(despite all the splicing and dicing),
Sometimes you can improve that overall feel problem of the lead guitar by just sliding the whole thing forward a bit. Good luck with that.

Hmmm... this is pretty great, as garageband said. When you notch up the drums, don't notch up the cymbals. The snare could use a bit more but the cymbals are loud enough as it is. Mix feels like it might be a little light on the subs? Not sure, the kids have gone to bed so I'm on 'phones.

Thank you for the comments. "How do u mix it"...MMMM, because I'm not an engineer, I'm certain that my approach would make most professionals cringe. I try to get the best take I can initially, and probably layer to many plugins in the post. I basically go for what sounds best to me. Anyway, thanks for the comments and check out my remix.

i personally like 6.10. more. It seems more open and dynamic maybe. The kick definately comes out better ( i think). I think it just sounds cleaner all the way through on the 6.10.

I think the drums still need to go up some and The first 5 seconds or so is very confusing to listen to. I'm not really sure whats going on, I would take out a couple of those piano notes or something along those lines. At some points it's too jumbled up and sounds like it could use some hard panning or automation to the faders.

The high verb vocals seem to be working for you. I might turn the effects volume down a tad though.

Cool tune. The delayed vocals are a bit heavy handed IMO, especially on the sibilant moments ("not the same...I get suspicious"). +1 on Ozone--it's a great one-stop tool!

Thanks byadrums - I agree on the delay, I was using the delay to soften the sibilants, not a good approach and not really addressing the issue. Great comments.

Not sure which version your referring to but you make some excellent points and I think a remix is in order.

Nice mix. I like the sound. Everything is very clear. I like the space.

This to me sounds way to spread out. If you spread things apart you add space. If you add space you do not need reverb for anything more than emphasizing details.
I love the hi-hat on the second mix. But the clean presence of the first mix is better.
First mix has some low mid section weak-points.

Apart from that. How is the stereo image and how is the mid imagine ?

Ok, listening again, I would cut the delay on the vox a bit. They tend to get drowned out and loose focus. Bring up the drums but not the cymbals. Hats are plenty loud, but sidestick needs to come up. That's the backbone. I think you could tighten up the bass just a bit and bring it up as well. That's the groove there.

I really dig the vox. Someone mentioned to watch the ssssssibilance. Dig the guitar solo tone. Bring that shit up dawg. Good stuff!

    Nice work. Cool tune.
