Default R&B/HipHop/Soul-Mix To Master!

ok so here's the song i did for my group, i did all the mixing and mastering just on home studio stuff vst's and what not. point is they rely on me to produce them a good song but we all grew up together so whatever happens.. happens and they will support the outcome. i just want it to be good anyways, thing is with my recording studio in my room which is pretty small it puts off alot of reverbish and the vocals from the get go are already sounding a little wierd, but not bad to the point where they cant be used. infact you wont be even to notice it in the mix and mastered versions i posted. anyways somehow this effect that is caused leaves me to deal with high amounts of sibliants and ambience. i tried to mix it out best as i could without changing the presence of the vocals an it sounded alright. time i got to mastering the mix they got brought up more. bottom line is i just wanna no is the mastered version do able to keep or needs adjusting or what not an please leave what needs adjusted an maybe a little advice on how to do that maybe? well take a listen i posted both mix and mastered.

Coooool track G! I'm a rocker but I can appreciate a smooth mix. This is like old school Tupac. How do you get that vocoder effect on the lead vocalist? aka california dreamin.I think you have a nice mix but the bass aint droppin like it should for this stuff. You need to get subsonic on this track.Throw in a random 60 killa hurtz bass drop note to set this mutha off. Also ya need some female fly girlz rappin on this just in the middle section for about 10 sec. This is right up there with the big boys as far as production goes it just needs a little more bass and dynamics and a mastering job and it's good to go to the radio.Overall, great job!

The high end sounds pretty tinny and grating... other than that nice job man!

That track rocks! I must say though, I prefer the unmastered version. I think for the master, you need much less compression so it can breathe a little more, and yeah the top end is way hyped. It hurts a bit. Easy fixes though. What are you doing for the master exactly? Great job on the tune.

Sorry, the gratuitious auto-tune abuse really bugs me.

I think that damn autotune is WAY WAY WAY overdone. Be default, an effect isn't really an effect if it's on the entire song (minus the choruses). I'd find thingies you want to highlight and maybe put the effect on if you really like it. I personally thought it was a tired gimmick in 2003, but I know it's still on the radio quite a bit.

Other than the autotune, this production is BAD ASS! GREAT JOB!!!!

This isn't my favorite genre of music, but it sounds killer and the song is good. It's straight up pro and ready for the radio.

I agree, I could totally hear this song on the radio. I generally dont listen to this style of music much anymore, but have in the past. The auto-tune on the mix really doesnt bother me. If anything you could still keep that on as the norm, but still accent some of the lyrics with some other effect. I really dug it though, even my wife overheard the mix and came over to listen (SHES A BIG HIP HOP FAN) which sucks for me, cause she doesnt really like much of my shit....lol, anyway great job!

ok guys i took yall advices and done my final master to where it was nice and smooth and no low end or high end buggyness if you no what i mean. problem was on this song i could'nt maintain a high volume with out it distorting on the L2 limiter really bad so its not to loud of a master but overall i think this is about right and sounds good ill post the song. an also the high frequencys on this track threw the paz frequency analizer where just to thin to cut out and it effected the mix if i tried. so i just had to cut much low end and high end as i could to maintain a naturalness to the whole song so here it is enjoy

Have to agree with everyone else, the auto-tune really bugs through the entire song, but other than that, it's a great track. Keep up the good work.
