This is my cover of "Furniture", a tune from the seventies by the Irish band Horslips. It's not my first mix, but it's the first one I've had the confidence to post anywhere... Warning: Duration is just under 10 minutes; apologies if it seems like 10 hours. Rip it to pieces, please. Thank you. Update: Remixed with a more balanced frequency spectrum. Still long and tedious, but a bit less muddy Last edited by TooBd59; 08-14-2008 at 09:01 PM. |

voice: too much background noise. Try using a lopass filter. To much brightness. I canīt hear the bass, neither the bass drum, boost some low. It doesnīt sound bad, and i love prog rock. But i donīt like those midi guitars, they sound great for being MIDI, but...sorry, not for my personal taste. OT: Have you ever listened to Gentle Giant? THE MOST AMAZING BAND OF 70s Prog. |

Thanks for listening, and commenting. The voice is me in my living room, recorded in one take on a cheap plastic mic. I gated it to lose the computer fan and headphone spill, and there was one almighty pop in first verse that you can still hear the echoes of. There are still a few bumps and thuds on the vocal track that I can't seem to get rid of. The initial mix was way too boomy, so I went through and rolled off the low end everywhere I could, as well as bringing down the bass and drum levels. Maybe I pulled them back a bit too much.... The guitar parts are all played on a keyboard, via RealStrat and Amplitube2. I'm not a guitariist, so I wasn't all that unhappy with the sound: my main disappointment is that the solos are so repetitive and uninspired, but I was never able to improve on that. I'll check out Gentle Giant. The name is familiar, but I need to refresh my memory as to their music. My tastes aren't limited to prog rock, but I just loved this track and I wanted to take a stab at it myself. Check this link for the vintage 1973 performance that inspired me: YouTube - Horslips - Furniture Thanks again for the critique, I appreciate it. Last edited by TooBd59; 08-15-2008 at 08:41 PM. Reason: Beefed up the bass and drums, and darkened the vocal a little, as suggested. |
